Kan. lawmakers want to review food stamps change
San Antonio Express News ^ | January 25, 2012 | AP

TOPEKA, Kan. - Some legislators said Wednesday they plan to review a state policy that has reduced or cut off food stamp benefits to hundreds of U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants...lawmakers acknowledged that they're sympathetic to Gov. Sam Brownback's administration trying to ensure that families with illegal immigrants aren't being treated more generously than families whose members are all legal residents. The administration said the change means all Kansas families are treated the same.

...lawmakers worry that the effect will be felt by children whose families were eligible for food stamps under the old standard but have since lost the benefits...

The new policy from the state Department of Social Services took effect Oct. 1 for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program...previously known as the food stamp program. The policy changes how household incomes are calculated for determining eligibility. SRS said the change means all families now are being treated the same, whether some members are illegal immigrants or not.

Since the policy took effect, 1,042 households with 2,066 children have lost their SNAP benefits though it's unclear how many of the affected households had illegal immigrants...

SRS had for a decade calculated a lower household income if some family members couldn't show they were living in the U.S. legally. For example, if a household had two working parents who couldn't show they were in the U.S. legally and two U.S.-born children, SRS counted half of the parents' income. As a result, families with illegal immigrants could qualify more easily for SNAP benefits than families with no illegal immigrants...some families received benefits when their incomes would have disqualified them if all members had been legal U.S. residents..."Kansas citizens have a right to expect that their government treats them at least as well as people in this country illegally."...

Treating illegals better than citizen families? WTH? I am trying to find out if Virginia uses this rule to grant food stamps to illegals. Does anyone know what their state does?

No problema----the illegals will just fork out couple thousand dollars to buy couple more identities with which to ride the US gravy train.

=====================================

REFERENCE The Federal ID that Pays Illegal Aliens Billions -----November 28, 2011

......a recent analysis entitled, “Treasury Department Says Illegal Aliens Collection Billions in Tax Credits,” revealed that according to the Department of Treasury’s Inspector General, more than $4.2 billion in additional child credits were paid out in 2010 to illegal immigrants. In 2005, the pay outs totaled $924 million. This program allows low income earners to claim a $1,000 per child credit.

EITC claims---can run up to over $3000 per claim. $20 billion is estimated to have been paid out to these cunning "impoverished" illegals. Most of them are collecting over and over again-----using multiple identities-----falsifying apps---claiming children they do not have and/or falsely stating kids are back in their homelands.

Liz, I found this:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B5nCGhVILwM8YzFiYTQ2NjUtZGI2Mi00YmEzLWE1ZGEtMjA1YWJhN2ExYTRi&hl=en_USTHE UNION OF PATRIOTS APPLAUDS GOV. BROWNBACK FOR
STANDING UP FOR FAIRNESS FOR KANSAS TAXPAYERS

1/26/2012 – The Union of Patriots released the following statement today regarding Kansas Governor Sam Brownback’s support for the numerous state agency reforms undertaken by the Department of
Social and Rehabilitative Services (SRS) in the year since his administration has overseen the department:
“The Union of Patriots applauds Governor Brownback’s support for Kansas taxpayers and his pursuit of the elimination of fraud, waste, and abuse in SRS.
“Until recently, the State of Kansas, like 47 other states, used a USDA formula called ‘proration’ that
allowed the children of illegal immigrant families to receive food stamp benefits and other state benefits
that were simultaneously being denied to children of legal citizens, even though they were earning the
same household income. This practice was fundamentally unfair, and needed to be halted. Under
Brownback appointee Rob Siedlecki’s leadership, this process was stopped, and to be honest, the
institution of a ‘no tolerance’ policy regarding long-standing SRS procedures that ran counter to the
fundamental doctrine of ‘equal treatment under the law’ was long overdue.
“In a difficult economy where the state of Kansas is attempting to pay for state services to benefit
Kansans with a shrinking revenue stream, the state needed to stop giving preferential treatment to
illegal immigrant state aid recipients that would not have qualified for the same aid if they were legal,
US citizens. We acknowledge that Governor Brownback has taken a difficult stand on an issue that
affects all Kansas taxpayers, and we thank him for honoring his primary obligation to support and
protect the taxpaying legal residents and citizens of Kansas. ”

“...lawmakers worry that the effect will be felt by children whose families were eligible for food stamps under the old standard but have since lost the benefits...”

As long as politicians are more worried about each and every individual who might get a dollar less of government money under some necessary cut or reduction in spending than they are about the fiscal sustainability of our country, we have absolutely NO chance of cutting government spending or reducing the debt!!!

Say it with me, people:
We HAVE to cut the spending.
That means EVERY government benefit program has to be cut some, some have to be cut lots, and some just need to go away altogether!!!
That means some “people” (issues, research, subsidies, etc.) will get LESS government money, and some “people” (issues, research, subsidies, etc.) will get NO government money.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to cut the debt and still give everyone the same government benefits they get today!!!
That means lots of people are going to be mad because they lost their “free” money.
We are $16T in debt with $120T in unfunded liabilities.
We can NOT survive as a nation without fiscal responsibility.
Get used to the whining from the entitlement crowd and special interests, or say goodbye to our USA!!!

I have a better idea. Let’s cut off Food Stamps to pretty much everyone. Forget illegals. Food Stamps is a royal scam for most natural born Americans who get them. The number of people on Food Stamps could be cut by two thirds and it wouldn’t impact the truly needy one bit.

Did you know that a family of four can have an income of $30,000 a year and still qualify for food stamps? A single mother, with two children who has a full time job that pays $7.25 an hour has an effective income of $48,000 a year when you add all the benefits she and her children receive from the government: food stamps, Medicaid coverage, subsidized child care, school lunch program, “Temporary” Assistance to Needy Families, subsidized housing, Earned Income Tax Credit, etc.

Treating illegals better than citizen families? WTH?

Quite a common practice these days. Illegals don't need to earn their "Constitutional rights", but should be taken care of even better than actual citizens because it's the "humane" thing to do dontchaknow.

They probably get the fast track for CCW permits too...

And no one is willing to give up “theirs”. In fact, they can come up with ways they “deserve” MORE!

There is no upside. We will continue to bleed money till it one day ends. And they day is coming soon.

The cities will burn when the checks stop...

I have a nephew who makes under 9K$ per year, and refuses to take food stamps or any other government assistance.

I would bet almost all states give food stamps to illegals. I know CT does. They don’t want to discriminate. After all, it’s about the children, you know!
