Rush may not like it but the Vichy Liberal establishment is pushing out 40% of its base. What happens is the Republicans lose 10% of the bases vote in this election? We are not wanted in the Democratic party period. We are wanted in the Republican party to the extent they will allows us in but none of our positions are supported, none of our candidates are allowed to run and win, and we are expected to fully support by working precincts, phone banks and sending in our $$$ for candidates who are to the left of Ted Kennedy in many cases.

When we dare question the establishment we are told to STFU and know your place, they are typical arrogant liberal pukes. How long would you as a principled person stay in a relationship which I described? Rush and the establishment are begging for a third party debacle. I don’t think the Republican party can be salvaged at this point, it’s corrupt to the core.

The question is when Romney wins the nomination and is trounced in the general election what will the conservatives in the Republican party do? Will they come back with the tired old line of working within the party-how has that worked out for us so far? Or will the likes of DeMint, Ryan, Perry, stand up and say we no longer recognize the Republican party and urge a mass exodus toward a tea party or some other party.

If the conservatives leave and coalesce around a new party quickly and absolute neuter any liberals who attempt to gain positions of power they can most certainly begin to have effects on elections and could condemn the remnants of the Republican party to the ash heap of history. Lots of ifs here. The downside is the democrats will win at least two-three election cycles and in the process destroy the country. So take our pick, quick destruction with the democrats or a slow death with the Vichy Republicans, results the same in either case.

The damage that second-term Obama Dems will would be, in a large measure, uncoverable.

If you want to change the GOP (I certainly do!), the time to do it is in the off-season, not by letting a Marxist win in order to settle a score.

A third party would split the non-obama vote, and fine, otherwise well-intentioned folks sometimes will opt to make a short-term, when all would be lost, long-term.

Never in my many decades has there been a general election with such dire consequences at stake if we (GOP) does not win.

I say let's (figuratively) go after the GOP blue bloods with all we have after the election, but put the party nominee in office by all (reasonable and legal and ethical) means.
