In comments likely to become fodder for his critics, Romney emphasized, "You can focus on the very poor, that's not my focus."The establishment wanted him. The establishment can have him. Were Romney to get hit by a meteor while standing knee-deep in water trying to blow-dry his hair during a thunder storm I would not observe a moment of silence.
Well talk about self destruction. What was that “they” have been saying about Newt again?
This is what he said:
“I’m not concerned about the very poor.” he said Wednesday. “We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it. I’m not concerned about the very rich. They’re doing just fine. I’m concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling.”
The entire statement was fine. You just took a small part out of context.
Enjoy!
Well shucks, he’s just lost the very poor republican demographic vote.
The statement was clearly taken out of context.
But then that is Romney’s MO when dealing with Newt and other conservative candidates. This sound bite will be used by the Obama team in the same way that Romney has used sound bites to defeat Newt.
Schadenfreude
So stupid. He should have said that he cares about the poor and he is acutely concerned that they are being forced into welfare dependency which leads to an unhealthy, unproductive and unvirtuous life.
Wow. This guy does not get conservativism and it really shows.
We are going to lose with mittens as nominee because too many conservatives will stay home.
Anyone notice or is is just me, that every Romney defender who has called Limbaugh goes on and on about how conservative he is, then adds “those people who don’t like Romney because he is mormon” and it always comes out that they are also mormon.
Romney - another food-stamp president
Suggested ad for Gingrich to high-light Romney’s true color -
Start - ‘Romney - another food-stamp president’
Next - sound clip from Romney: ‘I don’t care about the very poor. They have safety-nets...’
Voice: Yes! Romney, just like obama, will keep and expand all the ‘safety nets’ for the ‘very poor’, rather than create jobs for all, inluding jobs for the ‘very poor’, so they can take care of and feed themselves, instead of relying on government and taxpayers to take care of and feed them.
Vote for Romney and you vote for another food-stamp president.’
Result:-
Message sent - Romney = obama.
This should also take care of the preceived racial element in the ‘food-stamp president’ language.
Good grief. Another brilliant quote, to go along with “I like to fire people,” “corporations are people, my friend,” and all the other examples like the proposed $10,000 bet with Perry. And what was the thing about Romney telling an unemployed gent something like “I know what it’s like to get a pink slip?” And how his $350,000 speaking income “isn’t a lot of money.” Even if some of these things are taken out-of-context, they are still a vivid window into Romney’s mentality.
And THIS is who the loathesome GOP-E think is electable, whom the voters will flock to? The one person they’ve firebombed the whole grassroots/Tea Party in order to push? This aloof, arrogant POS??? The whole Republican Party will rightly deserve to be obliterated to dust for putting this guy up as nominee.
Palm to face....
He should be. If they become extinct, he’ll have to eat chicken.
This statement is only possible from a Mormon point of view.
You would not hear a Christian word it like that.
I do not have the animosity to Mitt that many do. But he makes a major mistake by not looking at how truly rotten is the so called "safety net," today.

Bumper Sticker Fodder
Poor Willard - he was born with a silver foot in his mouth.
Ann Richards.
His comments were spot on. Romney was dead right about this.
Mitt represents the ‘Marie Antoinette’ wing of the republican party.
It will not enhance his electability when the chips are down.
You just can’t give your enemy ammo. To utter the words... I don’t care about the poor... is just that. Obama will spin it and use it against him. Even if he meant well.
