Authors: Romney Denied Free Olympic Tickets to 9-11 Widows, Orphans; Gave Them to Utah Legislators

Mitt Romney, in pledging to turn around the Olympics in 2002, had promised to restore the honor and integrity of the scandal-clouded Salt Lake City. The Games captured the world’s attention and became all the more urgent after terrorists attacked us on 9-11. But while Romney invoked the wellspring of American patriotism after the attacks, he neglected their heroes, the fallen firefighters of that early September morning.

Romney’s executive assistant, Donna Tillery, twice denied requests to provide free or discounted tickets to widows and orphans of the felled firefighters but gave them for free to Utah legislators just six weeks later, according to a new book, The Real Romney (HarperCollins, 2012).

Tillery sent e-mails to A.J. Barto, a former Salt Lake City firefighter helping the 9-11 widows and orphans, citing a policy barring giveaways, but Romney gave 100 free surplus tickets ($885 each) to Utah legislators. “I was outraged at the hypocrisy,” Barto told Kranis and Helman. “In less than two months, he went from saying, ‘We’re going to run a tight ship’ to throwing out free tickets to a group of people who could help him politically.” (221)

Romney has an entire record over two decades and people are trashing him over not giving free tickets to the olympics to the “needy” lmao.

I believe those "needy" people you are laughing your a$$ off about were wives and children of firefighters that were killed during the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11. I could be wrong and stand corrected if that's the case.

Regardless, Obomney thought it would be better go give those tickets to his political "friends" instead.

Keep laughing though.

“Spoken like a true Mittbot”

Wow. I never thought about it that way! What incredible insight you possess! I bow to your superior intelligence! I mean, to zero in on the key point like that, why you must have studied philosophy at some great university. Maybe Eastern Michigan or some place like that.

Here we go again, or as RR has said, here he goes again.

Those who can’t argue and discuss go for the ad hominem...Twink is a shortened version of the nickname given to me as a child by my older brothers from being the twinkle in my daddy’s eye. Feel better now? You succeeded in taking a pet name and making it something dirty. Just as some posters before you have done. Nice. Very conservative of you.

“YTo the contrary, this is showing the “measure of the man” that would be president. The fact that you can’t see that is, well.... Sad.ay for you.”

You mean like Newt? The man who cheated on two wives? That many here all of sudden forget that. I’m not the one saying our politicians have to be perfect.

So Romney gave tickets to people he wanted to give tickets to and not the “widows and orphans of 9-11.” Cry me a river, build a bridge and get the hell over it. This is the least of our problems with him as the GOP nom.

I agree. Obama and the MSM, with the help of the conservatives will bury him in the general. I won’t vote for him in the primary but if he’s the nom in the general, against Obama, I probably will vote for him. But him giving tickets or not giving tickets won’t be a part of my decision.

I saw an interview on you tube where talks about it but I can’t find it. It was disgusting.

The man who cheated on two wives?

Bet you don't even have all the facts on that. It's just something that you heard.

My apologies, I was otherwise engaged at the time!

Charles L. Johnson. is whom I spoke of and I was mistaken.

So much for flash posting when life is happening!

I do apologize to all including the nutbag.

Yes it is. And of course, “bad capitalism or crony capitalism.” Also, he doesn’t worry about the poor. RME.

I don’t want the guy as our nom. I didn’t vote for McCain in the last primary and I won’t vote for Romney in this one.

Heh, those of us with jobs and being taxed to oblivion are caring less about widows and orphans, and those who suck welfare, less and less.

Very absurd. IMO.

Wow, while I would not vote for Romney, the anger and disgust displayed here is amazing. He is a Republican candidate (although weak one) and am surprised at the animosity of some here...

In my case it is because I can't stand the sight of the man. By the way anyone can be a Republican. All they need to do is register as one. Truth is Romney is 100% pandering fraud, and he should be on the Democrat party.

I think Romney is a bigger disaster then Obama because, unlike Obama, Romney will destroy the Conservative movement while he ruins our country.

Didn’t we give the 9/11 widows enough money so that they could afford to buy their own tickets?

Actually, don’t disagree with much that you said. Who you going to vote for though? We have a dearth of candidates this year and selection is minimal at best.

What that means is that we have no REAL Conservative candidates still in the running... What choice is there?

Another way to put it is we are screwed!

And you’d be wrong. I have all the facts. Unlike some, I don’t only see the positives or negatives of another person. I take them for what they are. Warts and all. I have a Masters in History so this is my area.

Newt has awful personal issues and yes he cheated on two wives for whatever reason. He married his high school teacher. Cheated on her and married looney wife #2. Cheated on her and married wife #3. That doesn’t play well and as we’ve seen the media made sure of it, regardless of the details.

Those details, baggage, don’t matter much to me since I look at his record and I remember his record from the ‘90s. His political record. But those details do matter to many and we can’t forget that.

You ain’t the brightest crayon in the box so don’t assume that I don’t know politics or the histories of politicians. I know Newt’s history, personal and political, and I will vote accordingly. I know Santorum’s personal and political history and Romney’s.

Denying Newt’s personal and political baggage doesn’t help him or us. Personally, between Newt, Santorum and Romney, I think Newt is the best person politically for our country but I don’t think he or the other two can win against Obama. The GOP had the best opportunity to field a candidate to beat Obama and they screwed up.

“Bet you don’t even have all the facts on that. It’s just something that you heard”

And you’d be wrong and lose that bet.

“Maybe we should tax anyone with a job and give 39% to widows and orphans.”

Mitt would rather tax everyone and give 39% to Utah legislators.
