Komen head: Planned Parenthood lost funding because they don’t do cancer screenings
LifeSiteNews.com ^ | February 2, 2012 | By Kathleen Gilbert

February 2, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a tense exchange with MNSBC’s Andrea Mitchell Thursday, the founder of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure explained that her group stopped funding Planned Parenthood because the abortion organization doesn’t actually provide cancer screenings, but simply refers patients to other clinics.

While extreme vitriol has been aimed at the breast cancer foundation following the news of their decision this week, Komen founder and CEO Nancy Brinker says the decision was simply the result of putting “metrics, outcomes, and measures” to their grants for better use of funds. Mitchell objected, questioning Komen’s possible political motivations, pointing out that Komen’s grants to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screening “have nothing to do with any contraceptive or abortion counseling.”

“That’s not the issue, because that’s not our issue,” Brinker replied. “Our issue is grant excellence. [Planned Parenthood clinics] do pass-through grants with their screening grants: they send people to other facilities. We want to do more direct service grants.”

“hey will never get a from me... they aren’t in the least concerned about a cure for breast cancer... Their top employees make almost half a million dollars a year...”

Just because they do not pay well does not mean that they do not care about a cure for breast cancer...they obviously have taken a strong stance on the moral issue of life. If they fell that way about life, they are fine for cancer cures...they have my support.

Hopefully you are aware of:

Breast Cancer Prevention Institute

Their head is:

Angela Lanfranchi, MD, FACS, [Breast Cancer Surgeon] Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway, NJ.

They also have a number of other MD's on the board.

But they also Joel Brind, PhD in Biology and Endocrinology.

There are not too many folks with that speciality (Endocrinology) and that is a necessary field to be an expert in to study Breast Cancer.

You might want someone in your medical office to download or look at:

Breast Cancer: Risks and Prevention (4th Edition) by this organization. They are very leading edge in terms of research in this field (especially in terms of prevention).

You don’t get it. They didn’t pull funds because they are prolife. It has nothing to do with abortion.

They are also vultures on small cancer charities. Suing them for trademark infringement for using the word “cure”. Do you REALLY think they NEED another dime?

That is correct.

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards claimed they did provide Mammograms (which is false).

The reason this issue came up was because of the state of Indiana denying funding to Planned Parenthood.

But Live Action.org/Lila Rose exposed this as a lie.

I posted links to a couple of articles on this in REPLY #17 in this thread -- just after your reply...

I have not given t Komen in years due to their ties to Planned Parenthood. That’s in spite of family members who had breast cancer. Why would I want to fund killing babies? Once they are completely “divested” of PP, I will donate.

Video: Straight Talk from Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, Founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen

Susan G. Komen has spent 30 years providing real help to low-income, uninsured and underinsured women, and recent changes to Komen's granting policies only reinforce our commitment. Recent reports about those policies aren't getting it right. See the real story from SGK Founder and CEO Nancy G. Brinker in this "Straight Talk" video.

Good post. Spot on. The hell with Komen. Another liberal front group that has lots of people on F.R. fooled. They will go to the ends of the earth to cover up the BC - Abortion link. Too bad so many of you are duped.

I'm not convinced that is their true motive.

There's an urban legend that says Michael Jordan was once approached to endorse a democratic candidate, and he refused. Was it because he was secretly Republican, they asked? No, he explained - he wouldn't get involved because "Republicans buy sneakers, too."

From recent reports, it sounds like PP is going all in to reelect Obama, and it could get quite ugly. It's just MHO but rather than having a moral epiphany, Komen is merely protecting itself. They don't want to lose 1/2 of their potential donations.

I'ts understandable to me that Komen doesn't want to be linked to PP - in the moral continuum they're nearly opposites...

Nice try.

Planned Parenthood

So you believe that Komen should help finance the organization that has murdered over six million defenseless babies?

Nice try.

Planned Parenthood doesn’t provide breast cancer screening.

They said that recently but I can’t remember where. They simply refer women to other places, but take Komen’s money anyway.

See Reply #17 in this thread.

There are links to articles about the FALSE Claims of Planned Parenthood providing Mammograms.

I probably should have been more careful in my wording. But just because Planned Parenthood claims something does not make it true...

Agreed.

I tend to think Planned Parenthood lies most of the time.
