Egomaniacs R Us: Trump to pick Newt
Washington Post ^ | 2/2/12 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 02/02/2012 5:37:18 PM PST by KansasGirl

By Jennifer Rubin Herman Cain, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Sarah Palin and now, it seems, Donald Trump have lined up behind Newt Gingrich. It’s convenient to have a candidate like Gingrich who attracts the unserious, the unpresidential, the uninformed and the unpalatable all in one convenient locale. It saves the time and effort needed to determine who is a credible Republican and who is not (Gingrich supporters). The move is yet another boost for Rick Santorum, who definitely is in the category of responsible and credible candidates (whatever you think of his views) and has been struggling to wean the base off its attraction to Gingrich.

Snip

And all of these pro-Newt characters share a penchant for extreme, nasty rhetoric with a disdain for productive governance.

Snip

Really, what’s next for Newt — a Duke Cunningham endorsement from a jail cell?

BIG MONEY REPUBLICANS, it is just that simple. Hell even I as a conservative am beginning to hate RICH REPUBLICANS, and of course RICH DEMOCRATS. I never thought I would say that.

At least with RICH DEMOCRATS we always knew what they were, but this RICH REPUBLICAN elite click is very sinister, seems they are bonding together to pick off the middle class.

Maybe Jim Robinson needs to buy an am radio station...The Free Republic and broadcast out of Fresno. Bet the audience would sky rocket!

Hell of an idea if you could get it syndicated and also up on Satellite radio.

CNN reported that the Newt campaign said they had no idea about any Trump endorsement. And no one else knew anything about Trump preparing to endorse until the stories started leaking yesterday about an upcoming endorsement. For Newt.

Now I’m going to think about this logically. Who WOULD know about an impending endorsement? Wouldn’t it be the candidate that Trump actually called yesterday and told that he would be endorsing? And wouldn’t this same candidate’s staff be able to leak this to various newsies and blogs, only saying that it would be Newt instead?

Who has the most to gain from this stunt? It smells rotten, so it must be Romney. What would Newt gain from this? Nothing. Ergo, most likely Romney.

UNLESS Trump just wants to totally humiliate Newt and told his people he would be endorsing him, knowing he was lying—in effect, setting up Newt for a fall. Then says nice things about him afterward. Yeah, Trump’s a jerk, but...

Nope. Back to Romney. :^)

Ok manc, here is the interview with Newt. He said there have been ups and downs but the establishment and Romney team used the words “destroy Newt” in Fla. and that was interesting. Newt said the delegates in Fla. will be proportioned and Newt is learning what not to do and what to do. He wants to present solutions and inspire people. He said the voting went up in Fla. percentagewise where Newt got the votes. It went down percentagewise in the areas in which Romney ran negative ads. So negative ads are not good for voter turnout. After Iowa and Fla. Newt will not allow negative ads to define him. He wants to make dramatic change and not manage the decline of America. The Trump endorsement was not mentioned. (His interview will be online later from Hannity show.) I sent Newt an email advising him that Mark Levin talked about Romney a lot tonight and he may wish to hear some of Marks criticisms to know what to focus on.

However, I believe he beats Obama in a landslide. Repubs will be forced to vote for him and democrats will not so much mind voting for another ‘republican’ Democrat.

That is what is driving people like Ann Coulter And FOX Thy hope the GOP will pick up the senate and then can control Romney

Fine if that is their belief but they don't have to slander and help propagate damn lies about Newt

Excellent! I hope he stays on message and does not let Romney get to him.

Seriously, I would like to know how this Newt endorsement news came to be. The radio news is saying that it came from inside the Newt camp. Why would they leak an endorsement that wasn’t sure? Did Trump play them for a fool? Would Romney have a guy pretend to be someone in the Newt camp and leak this?

Who did this? If Newt’s team really did, they are chumps. If Romney’s team, or even Trump, did this, it’s just COLD.

Romney slammed Newt in his interview with Hannity for saying it was too quiet in the last few debates and also said Newt attacked the moderators but did not debate the candidates. He sucks so bad. I find him vicious, pompous and smug. Did I mention classless too? Santorum is on with Hannity and just said Newt did not do anything unethical with Fannie/Freddie. Santorum simply contraasts his record with the others. He is not repelling and smug like Romney. I feel that Newt is in the mood to punch Romney out and who can blame him?

I heard Fox news say this morning that they asked Gingrich campaign about an endorsement from Trump and they told Fox they had not heard anything about it from Trump and had no knowledge of it. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE ROMNEY PEOPLE DID THIS TO NEWT. I SAW NEWT LATER AND HE LOOKED TICKED WHEN THE MEDIA WALKED UP TO HIM. He threw his hand up and said “Amazing what people will do to get attention! Just amazing!” Cavuto told Trump Newt looks ticked. Trump said he respected Newt and did not blame him for being upset. Then later, Newts people released all the negative things Trump recently said about Romney to the media. Trump is telling Greta right now that he tried to call Newt last night and got no answer.

thank you so much , really appreciate that.

Sounds Newt has taken a few lessons from my state.

If i were the GOP I’d be looking at Romneys numbers thus far and they are not great infact mostly they have gone down since the last election.

I do know that here in N FL many have said what Romney has done is unforgivable to them.
Now the establishment needs to look at their guy and think this guy has been running for these last few years, he had the money, the set up everything and yet his numbers are no improvement than the last time.

They have themselves to blame too as they put some lousy people up.
Swing state FL why not take a guy from say FL, NM, CO,VA Allen west for instance,
FL goes big in Nov, he can articulate, he was in the military and he has base support but no they wanted their north east business elitist man.

Off on a rant now ,,sorry but again thank you for that update.
I was watching Person of interest LOL Romney is not my person of interest for sure

Hi Yaelle, this is how I look at it:

Who stands to gain from this the most? Who said that they wanted to “destroy Newt Gingrich” not just beat him in the Florida primary? Whose campaign repeatedly claims “so and so” is going to endorse him, and the so-called endorser has to issue a statement of correction (i.e. Jeb Bush & Michele Bachmann)? Which group leaked salacious and untrue stories about Sarah Palin during the 2008 campaign, hoping to ruin her political prospects? Who has been caught, by Wolf Blitzer himself, lying about an ad that has his own voice approving of? Which campaign has low-down snakes who were part of the Drudge Report, which just happened to release a flurry of anti-Gingrich stories all in one day—a few days before the Florida primary, most of which were later proven false?

IMO, all arrows point to Romney. I even suspect that his campaign was behind all the Cain stuff. He isn’t a very nice man, and he runs a very nasty campaign. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg, as he has been planning this run since at least 2005. He is ENTITLED, and no one is going to get in his way!

Shoot! I forgot the most important question:

Who would actually KNOW that Trump was preparing to endorse? Only the two camps involved in the endorsement: Romney and Trump. Why would Newt pull a Trump endorsement out of thin air? How would Newt even KNOW that Trump was actually going to endorse someone—and the next day at that? The very first Trump stories came out as an endorsement for Newt. Then later in the day Drudge comes out with the headline about a Trump endorsement, but with ROMNEY’S photo. (Was Drudge part of the ruse? Hmmmmm.)

It had to come from either Romney or Trump. Now on to “who has the most to gain from trying to embarrass Newt?” Process of elimination brings me to Romney.
