....OTOH, making the candidates work and work hard for the nomination will, in fact, tend to put them on notice that they owe us, big-time. How that notice is responded to once a man is actually President is really a function of personality and ego.

That puts Gingrich ahead in this "game" as he does NOT want to "manage the decline" but wants to build on and renew the truth of American exceptionalism.

Newt does not want to "fix the safety net," preferring instead to bring back the "trampoline."

Newt wants to unleash people who dream, not "nurture" those who sit in dark rooms and rot.

Excellent post.

Romney would spend the tax-payers money with abandon. He has no concept of middle class family budgets and the taxes already imposed.

His experience in the ‘private sector’ will be transferred to the government - spending big on Federal agencies and find more reasons to start new agencies. He will not repeal Obamacare, close the Dept. of Ed, EPA or do anything about Fannie & Freddie or DOE. He is a speculator not a visionary.

None of that, even if true, is the least bit relevant to the issue of whether or not a President Gingrich would feel the least bit beholden to the conservative base on anything, at all.
