Exactly. This is the big fear, an unannounced attack that is untraceable. It can be done if the country develops a nuclear warhead. The missile part isn’t that hard, as it doesn’t have to be intercontinental.

It is a real threat.

I have wondered if the electronics must be ‘on’ when the EMP happens. Does EMP destroy units that are turned ‘off’?..............

I get the feeling Israel will attack anytime, starting possibly this weekend.

Nope.

Full moon...

I don’t think it matters. I’m no expert, but the EM pulse is what fries the electronics in place, whether its on or not.

If they have 'the power of Allah', what do they need nuclear weapons for?

Just a guess.. Allah is a weak-ass little bitch?

The electronics need not be "on". The destructive high voltage discharge would be induced by the EMP itself, not by the device's power supply. Shielded electronics might survive, depending on the shielding.

They could start and finish it during the Superbowl. Great halftime show!

Actually my fiancee’s nephew works as a fairly high level consultant to NASA and he told us about a year ago that the govt’s worst fear is an EMP. They are very worried about it.
In a surprising election-year gambit, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski has gutted legislation with strong bipartisan support that would protect the U.S. power grid from solar flares and Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) weapons, to benefit a “clean” energy bill backed by Senate Democrats.

The original bill, known as the GRID Act, authorized the federal government to take emergency measures to protect some 300 giant power transformers around the country. It passed the House of Representatives by a unanimous voice vote in August, an unusual show of bipartisan support in this Congress.

But when it went to the Senate, the bill was gutted of the measures to protect the power grid from EMP attack by Murkowski and committee chairman Jeff Bingamon, D-N.M., while other portions of the bill were added to her own energy bill, S. 1462, the American Clean Energy Act of 2009.

“Sen. Murkowski stripped H.R. 5026 of the main elements designed to protect our infrastructure and did not add them to her bill,” said Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition.

An aide to Murkowski said that Murkowski voted for stripping out the EMP provisions of the bill on practical, not political, grounds.

The "practical" grounds being not enough pork for Alaska...

“Its a very real threat.”

I agree. What is the chance of it happening? That is hard to say, but the impact would be unimaginable. If the east coast power grid were taken out, many, many people would die. Just think about what requires electricity to operate. Food supply gone in a week. No gasoline to run the stations pumps. No home heating. No hospitals. No communications. Mass hysteria, armed mobs running the streets looking for food.

.where a POTUS like we have now...wouldn't give the okay...

I would imagine that Ahmadinijad would give zer() 12 hours notice, just like Netenyahu would. That's because the Iranians realize that the only thing zer() would do with the info is to move his butt, and that other big butt, out of the way. Zer() would facilitate their plans, as it just even more quickly executes the transformational thing.

I heard that it would cost just a few millions of dollars to protect our electrical grid. A small price to pay for insurance.

For small stuff, I put it in MIL-B-81705-Rev-C bags, which go in surplus steel file cabinets that are grounded, and have been modified with copper finger-stock around the drawers.

With the Sun acting up, I'm more worried about another 1859 event than EMP from Iran. But whatever. It works either way. ;)
