I agree with you, but if that is the approach the conservative wing of the party wants to follow, they will have to forgo the strong desire to win national elections for awhile.
That is a hard choice to make, though most likely a necessary one.

As long as the establishment is setting the agenda and essentially controlling the GOP, the conservatives really are not winning anything. Nominating a Democrat like Romney is a good example of that- a Northeastern gungrabbing liberal who took the first steps towards socialized medicine shouldn’t even be considered as a Republican dogcatcher. And yet, that’s what they are doing. I wouldn’t think at this point its a matter of wanting to- its a matter of having to. The lengths to which the elites are going to select their candidate are proof that they only want conservative votes, and their candidate’s track record proves they don’t want conservative policy. With allies like that, who needs enemies?
