The spot featuring Clint Eastwood echoes Obama's campaign themes. Coincidence?

The Super Bowl is televised advertising’s equivalent of the Cannes Film Festival, so White House political strategists must have been smiling when what’s generally being hailed as this year’s best spot -- the Chrysler "Halftime in America" commercial -- subtly echoed the themes of President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign.(snip)Just to ice the cake, the gritty two-minute spot featured actor/director Clint Eastwood, whose politics usually put him on the Republican side of the aisle. In the spot, Eastwood’s voice narrates an account of Detroit’s comeback and, then, when his unmistakably craggy face appears on screen,

That was “Community Organizer” speak! I’ve actually seen “mute point” used, and heard “irrevalunt” several times. Always cracks me up!

Ditto.

Eastwood appeared to be saying America needs a game-changer (= new president) to win the second half.

Clint may not be a FR guy, but I’ll take him on our side. FR represents a small percentage of Republicans.

I don’t believe Eastwood knew that this would come out as Political. He is most often associated with Conservative Republican politics. I believe he was “had” on this one. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come out in the next few days refuting the Dem. spin on this.

I remain an Eastwood fan...or more correctly a fan of the characters he portrays. It’s just the way Hollywood is these days. It’s all make believe. I don’t go to Eastwood flicks for his politics anyway.

I figured by your tag that you were smart. I’ve read posts by you before, and I knew you had a good sense of humor. I was just making sure. :)

Eastwood sounded tough in the commercial and it made people feel good. But the commercial should have said that we delayed the inevitable rather than biting the bullet and going through a restructuring now. What Eastwood is shilling for is a government imposed plan that screwed secured creditors and non-union workers at the expense of union workers. There will be another downturn and the automakers’ cost structures will still be uncompetitive because they didn’t have the ability to get out of premium union contracts through a bankruptcy.

As much as I like Clint, his commercial was a great example of what we’ve become. Talking tough and congradulating ourselves for something that didn’t happen. We did not bite the bullet. We did not face the pain that is necessary to rebuild on solid ground. Obama protected his constituency at the expense of taxpayers and ultimately hurt the long-term future of the aut industry. But you won’t hear Clint say that.

Gee...it seems to me I said Republican. Yup, that's what I said all right!

I did NOT say conservative, now did I? I read the review you site and it does say he is registered as a Republican.

He has some Libertarian views, well so do I. Not some of the same as his, but I understand his position. Nothing good comes from Washington, so the less they do, the better I like it. I want the federal government "out of my life(and everyone else's)" as much as possible.

He might be a fan of being allowed to continue to work. The current regime could teach Joe McCarthy a thing or two about running a blacklist.

PowderMonkey, the link you provide says Eastwood voted for McCain over Obama. He is not strictly a Republican, though, and has supported Democrats too.

The bigger story, of course, is how voters feel about bailing out GM and Chrysler. Romney was against it, right? And maybe the Chevy Corvette they gave the MVP would have been extinct or bought by a Chinese company.

No you didn't, but please read further. He registered as a repub under Eisenhower's administration. That's like in the last century. As typical of his professional community, his political activity and causes he supported ever since are all over the map, and completely clueless. No. He's not a Republican.

who paid for that ad?

Taxpayers present and future, and also auto company bondholders and dealership owners who had their property seized by Obama.
