Plastic Hollywood armor doesn't stop real Detroit bullets.
Going to be a lot of Detroits before our current economic mess is cleaned up. When the gravy train is cut off to some of our cities it ain’t gonna be pretty anywhere.
It is a photo of Makati, on the outskirts of Manila, Philippines.
Any images there on the Chrysler Jefferson North plant or the Highland Park complex or the Lynch Ave. assembly plant or the Mound Rd. Engine plant?
How about the Dodge Viper assemply plant on Mack and Conner? Any photos of that?
How about the New Center area in downtown Detroit or the new riverfront area? How about Cobo Arena, or Ford Field or Comerica Park ..How about Indian Village or Palmer Park? I could go on and on and on......but the bottom line is Detroit is not about the decaying neighborhoods that are almost a hundred years old, it's the plants that are still surviving and the thriving downtown district that is growing and attracting more and more suburbanites to the lofts and condos and apartments that are going up down there.......
I suppose that if I really wanted to, I could find photos of your town or city that would make you cringe too...........
Like it or not, Detroit is still the motor city and the home of Chrysler, Ford and GM and kudos to Clint Eastwood for realizing that fact and helping to support us.........

I could go on and on and on......but the bottom line is Detroit is not about the decaying neighborhoods that are almost a hundred years old and in line with other major cities of the same size and age, it's the plants that are still surviving and the thriving downtown district that is growing and attracting more and more suburbanites to the lofts and condos and apartments that are going up down there.......

Like it or not, Detroit is still the motor city and the home of Chrysler, Ford and GM regardless of where their headquarters are now and kudos to Clint Eastwood for realizing that fact and helping to support us.........
I believe the picture that shows the rusted water tower is the remnants of the Packard auto assembly plant.
Insurance worries? Maybe. From what I've read about Detroit, it would take an army of security personnel to avoid the loss of everything not nailed down, and to assure the safety of cast and crew.
Although crime may have been a factor, I suspect it was more about money ... too many liberal/union palms to grease, too much security and liability costs.
Eastwood made a film several years ago, Grand Torino, that dramatized the collapse of the city of Detroit and the plight of its residents (I have no idea where it was actually filmed). I assume he's sympathetic to their cause and I doubt it was his decision not to shoot there, but the fact remains Hollywood wouldn't do it.
There’s still a considerable amount of wealth around Detroit and virtually every large city has some pretty run down areas.
As a Michigander I’m pretty used to explaining that Detroit doesn’t cover the whole state and that we’re primarily rural and pretty conservative. Its definitely an out of door lover’s state.
As always, giving Kid Rock for coming home to make this great video here in Michigan.

"Asked whether any part of the ad was filmed in Detroit, Gutierrez said that previously taken footage from various parts of the Motor City was used."
So when was the last time you personally visited the city of Detroit?
And if the city is so bad, why have we had film crews here filming movies for the past three years?
I’d rather walk in the worst parts of Detroit in the dark than the worst parts of Chicago during the day. At least in Detroit I can go armed.
Not likely.
47% of the residents of Detroit and New Orleans CANNOT READ OR WRITE!!
Isn't Chrysler majority owned by Fiat?
I think you should re-evaluate your sources of information Zooker. The movie Gran Torino was indeed filmed on location in Detroit. It was not about the "decline" of Detroit, it was about a Vietnamese Hmong family and the gang influence that was being exerted on their kids.
Gran Torino was filmed in the Detroit area. The main charachter, Walt Kowalski, his house is in Highland Park. The church, the hardware store were filmed in Grosse Point and so was the closing scene, on Lakeshore Drive. The VFW bar was in Warren and the barber shop was in Royal Oak. All the smaller parts were shot in different areas in Detroit and those locations are where the majority of the movie was filmed.
Is there anything else you wish to know about Detroit that you haven't already read Zooker?
As a lifelong Jeep aficionado I was incredibly saddened when Daimler-Benz merged with Chrysler. Now Fiat runs the show. Just as soon as a Japanese maker takes over, the Jeep that played no small part in winning WWII will have been passed around by all three major axis powers.
I forgot to ask, how did you like the movie Zooker?
I also have it on good authority that "Titanic" wasn't actual footage of the Titanic.
If it means anything to you, I liked the film and Eastwood's character in it. Maybe a little heavy-handed with the bigotry (asians, Poles, Italians, Catholics, and blacks all suffer his scorn at times throughout the film) but in the end it's good versus evil, people vs. animals, without regard to color or creed. Self-parody is unavoidable, but Eastwood's character grows from bigoted, self-centered Dirty Harry into something less violent and much more human in the end.
