Santorum: Fear the guillotine
maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com ^ | February 9, 2012

As presidential candidates go, Rick Santorum is quite an excitable guy. More so than most, the former senator is prone to delve into all kinds of bizarre, almost hysterical, ideas that he's only too eager to share with the public.

Just over the past couple of days, Santorum argued that evidence from climate scientists are an elaborate "hoax"; he said President Obama may force Roman Catholic churches to hire women priests; and he argued gas prices "caused the housing bubble to burst."

....here's what Santorum had to say during a town-hall meeting in Texas last night:

"They are taking faith and crushing it. Why? Why? When you marginalize faith in America, when you remove the pillar of God-given rights, then what's left is the French Revolution. What's left is the government that gives you rights. What's left are no unalienable rights. What's left is a government that will tell you who you are, what you'll do and when you'll do it. What's left in France became the guillotine. Ladies and gentlemen, we're a long way from that, but if we do and follow the path of President Obama and his overt hostility to faith in America, then we are headed down that road."

That’s almost as crazy as saying Obama would wage war outside the limits of the War Powers Act, or make recess appointments when the Senate was not in recess, or force Catholic hospitals to distribute birth control.

I agree with Santorum 100 percent and he is absolutely right.

Rick is “excitable,” but President Thin-Skin is imperturbable.

The only thing that Rick got wrong is that Gas prices caused the housing bubble to collapse. That shows his lack of financial understanding. But then none of the politicians have that right.

Over all his “Rant” shows that he has a bigger sense of reality than the rest to them. He is spot on. Unfortunately he has a record of not following through in what he voted for. Say one thing and do another. Once again that is a characteristic of all politicians.

I didn’t see anything wrong with the small part I read. I’m just wondering which one of the Founding Fathers was the time traveler who saw Obama and went back in time to help with the Constitution that has, so far, blocked Obama’s dictatorship.

If her points were the worst she could find on Santorum, I may have to re-evaluate him. He's not my top choice by any means, but he's right on everything she criticizes him for.

Rick will take Texas. Nobody on Earth thought that Rick would take Colorado and he did. I am glad that Rick is in Texas campaigning. That is brilliant. I am more and more everyday believe he will be our President in January 2013. This is so exciting.

I agree. Nothing bizarre about what he said at all. It’s the simple truth.

Can't go to the link and don't much like Santorum (yet), but I have a hard time believing he'd make a direct link between has prices and the housing bubble.

No, the economy tanking was big cause of the housing market collapse. The economy tanked due in part to oil prices and in part due to Bush and Paulson telling us the world was going to end if we don’t give the banks $1 trillion.

When a moodbat like Rachel Maddow launches into a hissy fit over a GOP candidate, that beats the hell out of an endorsement from Donald Trump for me. Or even Sarah Palin.
