This is appalling. It is the zenith of the idiocy that has crept in over the years in the naming of ships.

As a Navy veteran, and the son of a 30 year career naval veteran, this type of thing means something. I have always felt that ships were more than just pieces of metal, that over the years they do become imbued with something more than the inanimate parts that compose them.

The naval service I think died in a way some years back. It isn’t the Navy that men like my father knew, or even the one that I knew.

This was driven home for me recently when I watched the PBS series “Carrier”. I was disgusted at the attitudes displayed by the naval personnel in this series.

Anybody who has ever served in the military understands that many people who volunteered to go in, often don’t like being there, or wish they were out or back home. That’s a given.

And I do understand that this was PBS, a leftist organization that is going to do its darndest to portray an institution such as the U.S. Navy in the most negative light that it possibly can, but I simply could not stomach watching it.

The pussification and political correctness that I saw was sickening. I guess if I had to categorize it, it was the Oprahfication of the military, and this one happened to be the U.S. Navy on display.

And now this. I’m a loss for words. It’s not that I harbor any ill will towards this person Giffords in particular, or even at all. It just galls me to think that theirs were so many more deserving people of this great honor of having a ship named after them, that to see an insignificant leftist hack whose only claim to fame was that she was shot and injured by someone who didn’t think she was as left as she should’ve been.

I just can’t believe this.

all the military has gone like that.
We now have Generals etc getting promoted not based on merit but based on where they stand political wise.

We have far too many in the supply lines in the army who only join to get VA loans, free school etc
We have far too many joining the Navy, who want their freebies like free school.

When don’t ask came up the Marines stood up for what was right.

We had a couple of years ago some Navy ships and coastguard come in to JAX

I have never seen such utter crap than when saw some of those sailors, they had dirty boots, uniform not pressed, unshaven

That should have been sending to the brig offense when on public duty.
We were on a ship and one sailor did not know what a prism compass was and had no clue that it was on the bridge where my kid asked what was that.

There was the rights printed on the board, WTH

Some sailors and soldiers were so fat, and all the women were too.
When I asked a group of black overweight woman couple of questions about the ship I got, hur hur for a reply, what happened to yes sir

One elderly guy walked away disgusted and this group of women just muttered about him and then all laughed

This was all on public duty

Get rid of PC first and foremost and if those who want their free school etc want to join then let them but they have to do a longer service to earn it
