You may want to make the opponent think you're going to do one thing while setting up another so that his reaction in anticipation of what you're not going to do will increase the impact of what you're really going to do.

All to the better if Axelrod and Soros are asking:

"Videos? Videos? What videos are those, Barry? You didn't tell us anything about videos. Are they marching in angry protest videos? Are they urinating on the U.S. flag videos? Are they doing lines of coke videos? Are they amber drops videos? Are they anything like the photos your mom did with Frank Marshal Davis? How are we going to spin it? Uh, well, people typically experience college as a time of experimentation with different lifestyles and Michelle and your two daughters don't hold that against you so why should the American voter? Tell us what we can expect, Barry."

We want them to waste time and effort worrying about what could happen. That's less time and effort they have for everything else.

Think a little bit. If such videos were released right now, it would give the MSM time to downplay them. If there are stories going around about videos and they don't know what they are, then they cannot downplay anything because they don't know what they are. If they speak of their existence, it will only increase public interest. How did the MSM "downplay" Larry Sinclair's allegations about Barry doing coke with him and getting done by him? They ignored it.

I almost made that point myself. No doubt the lights have been on all night at the Ministry of Truth. On the other hand, if it turns out to be nothing, either because it has been defused by the spin machine, or because it was merely a feint in the first place, then it does not bode well for Breitbart's credibility. (And despite the tone of my original post, I don't want to see Andrew lose cred.)

Doesn’t get me very excited.

I don’t think there’s one person who voted for Obama in 2008 who’d switch because of any college-age excesses of ideological sentiment or consumption of drugs or alcohol, or even crime of the minor property sort (vandalism, grafitti, what have you).

Homosexual conduct would be explained as youthful experimentation, or might even a proud declaration that he’s a bisexual American — could cost him North Carolina and Virginia but if we’re fighting for North Carolina and Virginia in November we’ve already lost.

That leaves outright serious crime — assault, felony level theft or property damage, drug dealing — caught on video. Love Obama or hate him, you can’t deny that he’s been a careful, deliberate and ambitious his entire life — that kind of conduct would be grossly out of character and pretty darn unlikely.

That may have been the philosophy during the last campaign, but o has lost his glow and isn’t ‘cool’ anymore.
