A Gay Time at JCPenney
Townhall.com ^ | February 11, 2012 | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 02/11/2012 3:55:44 AM PST by Kaslin

Every Halloween, New York City residents are greeted by homosexual parade marchers dressed to impress bystanders with a message that "gay is good." Some folks take the parade in stride, some are offended by more than a few outrageous displays, and others simply could not care less.

That parade is a microcosm of how Americans, in general, feel about the gay movement. And those who oppose the in-your-face tactics of some homosexuals do have a legitimate gripe. They simply want to be left alone. They don't want to see explicit displays in public that offend their moral or religious point of view.

Enter Ellen DeGeneres and JCPenney. The Texas-based department store has hired DeGeneres as a spokesperson, and that is royally teeing off a conservative group called "One Million Moms." On their website, they are calling for JCPenney to "replace Ellen DeGeneres as their new spokesperson immediately and remain neutral in the culture war."

The Moms go on to say DeGeneres is not a "true representative" of the type of families that shop at JCPenney.

While I sympathize with folks not wanting to deal with homosexuality, I think the Moms are wrong. DeGeneres is an American citizen. She has committed no crime. If she wants to promote equality for gays or gay marriage, that is her constitutional right. She should not be dismissed from anything.

But the Moms have rights, too. They don't have to shop at JCPenney if they believe the company does not hold their values, and they are doing nothing wrong by making their disenchantment known. As long as they don't try to hurt DeGeneres or any other individual, I have no problem with the Moms.

In the 1950s, Sen. Joseph McCarthy got a whole bunch of Americans fired from jobs because he said they were communists. There was even a blacklist in Hollywood that banished perceived leftwing job seekers from employment in the entertainment industry. That was awful and flat-out un-American. In this country, you have a right to be a communist, and nobody should punish anyone for their political beliefs.

In my opinion, Kim Kardashian is a far worse role model than Ellen, and the Million Moms might want to check that out. Kardashian is all over the media peddling an aggressively self-involved image that is anything but healthy for teenage girls. In fact, there are scores of media people who are celebrated for bad behavior. If the Moms want to be consistent in their outrage about dubious behavior, they are going to be very busy.

So let's leave Ellen alone and allow the marketplace to dictate exactly what Americans believe is worthy. That is the American way. Witch-hunting against certain people and groups is not.

...that is her constitutional right. She should not be dismissed from anything.

Is BOR really so stupid that he thinks there's a constitutional right involved here?

FOX News may have 'jumped the shark' over mittens

I for one have had enough of the ‘wisdom’ of Bill Kristal, Chas. Name ONE true conservative who is regularly on FOX

There is clearly a hunger and a market for honest news and honest conservative news - and it is clearly not FOX

I am not going to barf on my keyboard, because you have given me another reason to NOT SHOP AT JCPENNEY! I already don’t watch Ellen and won’t buy anything she puts her name to, so not shopping at JCP isn’t a big leap for me.

Thanks for posting this, though. I SO learn where not to shop and what not to buy...

Now think about this, JC Penney could have made a deal with Rosie O'Donnell instead of Ellen Degeneres.

"That is the American way."

Well sure, and how's that working out for you? Seventy years of the majority of folks trying to play by the rules has gotten us to the point of being force fed dung sandwiches. It's time to wake up. You keep pretending you can play "it's the American Way" with people who are intent on destroying America and everything it's ever stood for, but the rest of us are awake and know better.

The fact you miss is that you can't fight "Rules for Radicals" with "Roberts Rules of Order".

[BOR] “In the 1950s, Sen. Joseph McCarthy got a whole bunch of Americans fired from jobs because he said they were communists.”

This guys is such a loser. McCarthy had access to classified information (since disclosed). He got them fired because THEY WERE communists - every one of them.

Correctamundo. If anything, McCarthy's list was a bit short. This according to now pro-gay Ann Coulter.

BOR also is trying to slide by the fact that anyone who criticizes a homosexual, or homosexuals, or homosexuality, immediately has homosexuals try to get his job. That is the first thing they try to do -- get a person fired, using back-stairs influence through closet cases at the employing company or organization. How many times have we seen that?

If O'Reilly criticized Ellen DeGeneres, he would lose his job the next day.

Why is it that liberals can boycott anyone they please (remember the boycott of Arizona?) but conservatives have to take it with a smile on our faces just to prove that we are not bigoted.

It’s time for Fox News to get out of New York City. Rush Limbaugh is down in Florida, why does everyone in the media have to work from NYC? Oh, I almost forgot, Glenn Beck has moved to Texas. Maybe there is a new trend starting. Get away from the fetid swamp of NYC.

McCarthy was a Senator, and was concerned with Communists in the Federal government. Fact was, there was substantial infiltration, helped in part by Wallace, who as a Communist agent, had been secretary of two cabinet posts and Vice President.

The movie industry had a lot of Communists too. That investigation was led by the House Unamerican Activities Committee. One Ronald Reagan testified before them. His testimony is available online.

Someone who knows real history! Thank you BobL!
If O-Reilly were a serious journalist, he would be aware that Senator Joe MeCarthy was not a rogue “witch hunter”, but rather working with a list of communist infiltrators developed by the FBI in his investigations. The Communist Party newspaper “The Daily Worker” of 4/15/1950 expressed, “Communists are keenly aware of the damage the McCarthy crowd is doing.” Every allegation was eventually proven true, in spite of Arthur Miller’s (and the public school system’s) work to historically discredit him. Unfortunately, the otherwise healthy Sen McCarthy died a mysterious death at Bethedsda Naval Hospital, and was thus unable to defend himself against reputation smears. Bethesda was also the same hospital where fellow whistleblower James Forrestal “committed suicide”. No autopsy was performed on McCarthy. Further info can be found in the book, “The Assassination of Joe McCarthy.”

Actually there was no connection between HUAC and McCarthy.

Thanks and wow - I didn’t know the end game for McCarthy.

This stuff is now factual and is US HISTORY. It needs to be taught to kids, desperately.
