Now if only Santorum can hire a decent speech coach (his writing is top notch, it is the delivery that sucks) he would be a force to reckon with.

You just got through admitting that Santorum is as exciting and interesting as a dry dead stick, and yet, you hang your support 100% his way, to go up against the toughest most vile and corrupt media in our Nations history. Against one of the most hypnotic Marxist orators ever to hold public office, who holds hundred of millions of dollars in his campaign war chest.

And yet you believe Santorum can and will win, in spite of the impossibility that he can gather even enough delegates to meet the minimum requirement. But even more alarming is the fact that you refuse to understand Santorum's actual and very poor conservative record.

Considering just these few points I covered among countless others, it compels one to revisit the definition of insanity. Good job at clearly illustrating the definition thereof.

You do realize that Foster Friess met with Romney?

Sorry but I am not one for paranoid conspiracy theories. Santorum is certainly not in the tank for Romney. That is a ridiculous accusation. Even if you believe it, as an argument it is really weak.

Can I suggest a better approach is to provide positive reasons why a Newt candidacy is plausible?

Both Newt and Sanorum are big government Conservatives. It was Newt who initially suggested Rick should drop to give Conservatives a single candidate, and I am guessing somewhere on these boards I agreed. Fortunes have turned. Rick is on top. Newt looks like the walking dead to me. I think it may be time for Newt to follow his won advise, or we risk nominating a liberal.

Not trying to be smart, but he is for Big Gov’t which lets face it, he is a liberal.

The difference between his and Newt's ACU ratings is so small that you cannot make a substantive case to defend it.

Like Bush, McCain, Romney.

McCain is fairly conservative in spending, Bush not, Romney is more of a control freak... to equate these people is to demonstrate either ignorance or standards of discrimination so broad as to be meaningless.

Santorum appologists are rather plentiful as well as come cheap around here lately.

But Santorum will get his clock cleaned in short order. Even the most simple minded can plainly see that.

The mono-tone professor (NEWT) was not the least bit inspiring and will throw everything out there to win over the gullible and easily duped.

I doubt you would think that Jim Robinson is gullible or easily duped now would you? Here's his take on Newt.

Newt is a pro-life Reagan Revolution conservative who led the Republican Revolution of the 90’s, taking the majority away from the democrats who had held it for 40 years. And as Speaker, cut the taxes, cut the government, cut the spending, cut the deficit, cut regulations, cut unemployment, brought the federal budget under control for four years running.

And unlike Romney, actually blocked a socialist healthcare system from becoming law. And created a pro-growth, pro-free market, pro-jobs environment and extended the Reagan economy throughout the 90’s!!

Newt is the ideal candidate to lead the Tea Party Revolution!!

Newt plans to go to a 15% personal flat tax after deductions and a 12.5% corporate tax and eliminate the capital gains taxes altogether. He wants to privatize social security and medicare and eliminate the payroll tax.

And he wants to neuter the EPA and the Fed. Repeal ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley. Fire all of the czars, dismantle the Marxist state and fire if not jail Bernanke. And send 185 federal socialist welfare programs back to the states and the people, and return education back to local control.

Newt will directly challenge the liberal activist judiciary and end the unconstitutional power grabs of our usurping black robed rulers. He wants to restore the constitutional balance of powers between the three branches and restore states rights and individual rights. He wants to turn government control back to the states and local people as the founders set it up.

These are the kind of dramatic reductions in government that the tea party is demanding.

Yes, actually I do believe Newt will do what he said he will do.

OK here is what he said, in writing (with a hat-tip to AuntB):

“When I first ran for Congress I was the natural candidate of most environmental groups…” Newt Gingrich, “Winning The Future,” Page 168

“If the United States challenged Europe and Japan to join it in financing a world biodiversity refuge system and tied foreign aid into the process of maintaining biodiversity, we could probably save a very high percentage of the earth’s biological richness…” Newt Gingrich, “Winning The Future,” Pages 170-171

“As a young professor at West Georgia College, I taught in the second Earth Day in 1971 and coordinated an interdisciplinary environmental studies program.” Newt Gingrich, “Real Change,” Page 196

“That is why I worked so diligently as Speaker of the House to protect the Endangered Species Act, historic legislation that has been mired in controversy…The Endangered Species Act is an excellent example of the value of civility, consultation and collaboration.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages XII & 51

“For that reason, we have supported its (the Endangered Species Act’s) continuation against all challenges by private citizens, interest groups, and congressional opponents.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 53

“The U.S. government operates endowments for the humanities and the arts…Perhaps, it is time we consider a new endowment for conservation and the environment.” “Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages 115-116 [NOTE: As Speaker, Gingrich told conservatives he wanted to eliminate the wasteful National Endowment for the Arts. Now he cites it as an example of a government spending spree that needs to be duplicated.]

“Significant resources should be set aside to protect hallowed sites such as the Galapagos Islands, the Virguna Volcanoes in Central Africa, and Georgia’s Okenfenokee Swamp, to name a few.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 117

Where does that end?

John Muir, for most of his adult life, experienced nature in spiritual overtones…He even favored using the armed forces to enforce environmental law…However, with the inexorable advance of the urban realm, the defense of forested land assumes a greater urgency as we strive to sustain the highest-quality standards for our nation’s air, water, and land.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 127

“Our national parks and wildlife reserves require more vigorous protection. With an eye toward strengthening his environmental legacy in the 2007 federal budget, President Bush requested the largest increase for national park funding in our nation’s history. We should expect nothing less than excellence from our national park system.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages 130-131

“Far from becoming a new source of global discord, environmentalism, which binds nations to a common concern, will be the best thing that’s ever happened to international relations.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages 149-150

“We will need to organize a series of high-level global conferences that focus on specific [environmental] problems…” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 158

“…the type of arduous research that produces real breakthroughs can only be funded by astute governments.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 167

“America used to be that kind of government [that spent millions of tax dollars on “energy research” welfare programs,] but our commitments have wavered in recent years so government incentives for energy research will be issues in future political campaigns.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 1 +667

“Mobilizing other countries to join us will not be as easy as it may appear. Many of the countries that signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol are lagging behind on their commitments.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 168

“The act [Endangered Species Act] has been, by any measure, a very successful guardian of wildlife and habitat and any attempt to weaken it should be resisted.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 170

“…our children, according to Louv, run the risk of acquiring ‘nature deficit disorder,’ a malady that he describes as a contributing factor to a recognized mental health construct, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Nature deficit disorder, not yet acknowledged by scientists or clinicians, is a working hypothesis that Louv believes helps to explain the onset of ADHD, and he proposes that exposure to nature should be offered as a therapy for children who have difficulty attending to stimuli and learning in conventional classrooms. His call for research in this domain is compelling.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 182

“Local governments operate much closer to the origin of environmental problems, and they have begun to provide tax incentives and large cash rewards for environmental compliance…While the motivation is driven by the application of tax dollars, the effect is rewarding rather than punitive…” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 194

“…our government, at all levels, must be modernized to successfully partner, let alone compete, with the private sector.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 196

“In spite of the demonstrated liberal leanings in academia, we have nothing but respect for the nation’s scientists. They represent America’s best hope to protect the environment. We support a dramatic increase in science and technology research and development because we desperately need to understand global climate change and other environmental phenomena.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 201

“Needless to say, an appropriate and significant investment of public and private funding to renew the earth will pay dividends.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 202

Now, lest you think I don't give a crap about the Environment, you couldn't be more wrong. I have been restoring native plant habitat to an unprecedented degree for twenty years, gratis, upaid, that's ZERO tax dollars. Our grasslands have achieved (I am told by the director of the local arboretum and the President of the California Native Grasslands Association) to a degree of purity unmatched in North America.

I regard the environmental philosophy of "preserving nature," in other words, NO PEOPLE, as espoused by our universities and adopted by Mr. Gingrich, is perhaps the most destructive idea in human history. What was once a continent managed intensively by people for thousands of years is to be abandoned to "nature" out of the wishful thinking that so many exotic introductions won't destroy native biodiversity, all evidence to the contrary.

Which is why I've written two books on the topic.

So, if you really believe that Newt will do what he says he will do, this is it. Environmental regulation has done more to destroy this economy than even taxation. I guess that's what you want.

Santorum lost by 16 points to the son of a legend in a year when Washington or Lincoln would have trailed by double digits.

Vsent from my phone at CPAC.

Santorum has because he's not been vetted, neither by the left NOR the right.

That's right and the left likely won't....running with Romney and Santorum assures them Newt's neutralized . They will keep them both in the news to sustain their goal of keeping Newt at bay.

As for vetting Santorum ...his record alone shows he's a huge government boy....and there's no way he has a path to delegates...(Read Titans post on the facts).

This is all about Newt vs. the GOP with the media and the left hand in glove in order to keep their seats and their hearths warm....and worse...the US Citizen footing the bill for it all.

“LOL...that was hilarious”

You know me! I was having some fun. It was annoying to have the Perry-bots telling us that everyone against Perry simply wanted Romney (particularly Cain). And then Santorum is in third place, so everyone tells us that Santorum is just there to get Perry elected. So I figure with Romney now in third place (at least in one state), his only purpose is to get someone else elected (doesn’t matter who, so I picked Paul).

If you listened to Newt’s speech yesterday, he said we have to abolish the EPA, get rid of all the people associated with it, and replace it with an Energy agency that will exercise Common Sense and Balance between our energy needs and responsible environmental policy.

Listen to his CPAC speech. When I say I believe he will do what he says he will do, that is what I’m talking about, his vision for the Future and immediate steps he would take as President...not what he has written in the past in his numerous books.

Santorum's job right now is to remove Romney from the ranks of the inevitable and take this whole circular firing squad to the brokered convention.

If Gingrich takes the nomination, great. Otherwise, we still need a viable candidate.

Santorum comes across as too messianic and pompous. I do not understand why many conservatives are allowing the media to define Newt Gingerich — as the MSM did Rick Perry.

And speaking of Perry, the party could do a lot worse than draft Perry at the GOP convention.

Please note the diametric difference between the tenor of the CPAC speech and WHAT HE WROTE, on his own and with plenty of time to reflect. You have no idea how the content of his CPAC speech would translate into consequences on the ground.

Inasmuch as I would love to convert his commitment to stewardship into concrete action, he would have to take said action before I would trust his word.

Santorum / Gingrich
Gingrich / Santorum

Let them both show up at the convention , and let their delegates decide. But Join forces against Obama-Lite (Romney)!

Works for me, even if it turns out that either has a commanding lead and "brokering" isn't needed. On a single ticket, Newt and Rick would each negate the other's weaknesses to a large degree. I hope that both are smart enough to see that and embrace the possibilities.

Unless Jim was in the audience at CPAC, I see nowhere in my post where he was brought up, or the need to. I know who he endorsed and I also know that he wasn’t singing the same tune just six months ago, but I don’t hold that against him.

Again, I could post Newt’s own words, but that’s not good enough for those who can only repeat the latest campaign-issued talking points and easily disregard his past as “mistakes”. I also know posting Newt’s own words and deeds here is considered “trashing Newt” and sends many of his rabid supporters into a foaming-at-the-mouth rage since they cannot explain his “mistakes” away effectively.
