War and Peace is well known as being one of the longest novels ever written, though not the longest. It is actually the seventeenth longest novel ever written in a Latin or Cyrillic based alphabet and is subdivided into four books or volumes, each with sub parts containing many chapters.

Tolstoy came up with the title, and some of his themes, from an 1861 work of Proudhon: La Guerre et la Paix (’War and Peace’ in French). Tolstoy had served in the Crimean War and written a series of short stories and novellas featuring scenes of war.

He began writing War and Peace in the year that he finally married and settled down at his country estate. The first half of the book was written under the name “1805”.

During the writing of the second half, he read widely and acknowledged Schopenhauer as one of his main inspirations. However, Tolstoy developed his own views of history and the role of the individual within it.[8]

The novel can be generally classified as historical fiction. It contains elements present in many types of popular 18th and 19th century literature, especially the romance novel. War and Peace attains its literary status by transcending genres.

Tolstoy was instrumental in bringing a new kind of consciousness to the novel. His narrative structure is noted for its “god-like” ability to hover over and within events, but also in the way it swiftly and seamlessly portrayed a particular character’s point of view. His use of visual detail is often cinematic in its scope, using the literary equivalents of panning, wide shots and close-ups, to give dramatic interest to battles and ballrooms alike. These devices, while not exclusive to Tolstoy, are part of the new style of the novel that arose in the mid-19th century and of which Tolstoy proved himself a master.[9]

Heh, Sarah “mis-spoke” and said “ObomneyCare” after calling Romney a fine candidate.

Did she really say 'ObomneyCare'?

Yep, rodguy911. Too many people have no idea what they are paying when it comes to taxes....just see the bottom line on their net take-home.

Really? I distinctly heard him giving a powerful statement on this in a speech. And I don’t suppose a Mormon, who knows full well the results of religious persecution, would hesitate to speak out about this.

Missouri only rescinded the order to drive out Mormons or if necessarily kill them (done by their governor in the 1800’s) in 1976. I think perhaps people are not understanding things properly, and of course the media is not about ppushing Santorum for good purposes.

Beware media personalities bearing gifts.

she’s a Catholic...then goes on to make fun of Catholic’s view of “sex”.

Yup, I heard that right after I posted.

She's typical of the baby-killing "catholic" you so frequently find in an elected RAT official.

Thanks for the heads up. Liz Cheney is right: nothing is free and it certainly is an affront to the constitution.

Exactly, if everyone had to write a check for the taxes they really pay instead of business taking it out things would “:change” really quick.

He did say that Rick could win, he may lose his membership to the Country Club? He did dutiful hammer Newt, so he will be allowed to stay.

This morning was the first time I’ve seen this Lew character and he is one slippery eel. True socialist through and through. He’d have no problem arguing that black is really white, up is down and bad is good. Disgusting.

Oh Yeah!

Now I have to go back and completely watch all three shows, and I certainly have better things to do.

-- I am not certain Romney's thinking on why he supports this so perhaps it would be good if he addressed this issue. --

It's a position he held as governor of Massachusetts, and when he ran in the GOP presidential primary in 2008.

Five years ago, he said he liked the "idea of getting the political debate out and I like the idea of not having the huge jumps as we do now."

Confessing I never even heard of Jack Lew ... he’s on every show this morning.

How does that work?

Does he announce his availability and since it comes from Obama he cannot be denied access.

I may tape the re-runs to see him.

I agree, RG. I do still like Hannity, but he does seem to use the same guests over and over. I think the other reason I got a little bored with him is that he gets on some ‘talking points’ and seems to repeat them daily for a week or so. In thinking about that now, perhaps that’s not such a bad thing - many listeners of his show don’t read FR and aren’t as ‘intune’ to the happenings of the day as we are.

I remember the Clintoon years when I wanted to throw my slipper at the TV every time Ann Lewis or others came on - they kept repeating the same thing over and over (usually it included something like: ‘he wants to get back to work for the American people’). They repeated the lines enough, people started believing them. At least Hannity uses conservative talking points, and maybe by repeating them, people will finally wake up and get the message.

Thanks for watching and reporting. Hopefully the Obomney quote will go viral. She doesn’t have to endorse if the subliminal comments get out there.

The whole idea of cutting 2% out of medicare giving us a phony tax break was to destroy Medicare which was set up as a separate part of govt. paid separately by capitalism.

Au contraire. Medicare was never self-sufficient nor will it ever be. For example, the premiums paid to fund Part B (and Part D) only cover 25 percent of the costs. The other 75% must come from the General Fund, which is why eventually Medicare will consume the entire federal budget unless it is reformed. Medicare Part A has been in the red since 2008, i.e., it is paying out more in benefits than it is taking in through the payroll tax. Its trust fund (IOUs) will be exhausted in 2020 or so and the only reason that has been extended was because of the Obamacare cut in Medicare funding.

Be careful what you wish for.

A brokered convention would be the biggest horse trading and bull spitting thing you ever saw. Something good could come out of it and something really bad could come out of it.

We’ve got to face the fact that we don’t have a perfect candidate and we don’t have a nearly perfect candidate but we do have 4 candidates who would be a million times better than Obama.

And, yes, I include Ron Paul in that statement.
