Sure. But it’s not the worst of his problems. Like you say, he has serious psychological issues to deal with: heavy drug use, youthful involvement with the Panthers, anger, etc.
In a word, YES.
In addition, he runs no risk any time soon of winning an Oscar. He is merely an adequate actor --- not overtly bad.
In addition, when not being "directed,' all indicators are that, like most actors, he's as dumb as a bag of rocks.
