If that (or its reverse) is not Obama's absolute dream ticket, what is?
Here's what I meant to say: “Imagine Gingrich gaveling down Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and using parliamentary procedure from the chair to tie Reid's agenda in knots. Gingrich has a long history as a bomb-thrower in the House of Representatives and in the Senate, that could end up being a good thing by breaking up the collegiality and running the Senate the way he did the House during his time as Speaker.”
I don't think President Obama understands religion or religious motivations. So you may be right.
If you are right that Obama deliberately torqued off Roman Catholics to help Rick Santorum, he's going to find it's harder to get that anger back in the bottle than he thinks.
Key parts of the Democratic Party constituency are Roman Catholic but have voted for Republicans in the past based on social issues. Those “Reagan Democrats” tend to live in key states. Infuriating the bishops and the Roman Catholic hospitals at the same time is not a recipe for winning Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Florida, and if Obama keeps going what he's doing, he may end up putting several normally Democrat states into the Republican column based on angry Hispanic Roman Catholic votes.
Demographics being what they are, that could be a very, very good thing for many years down the road. I'm a conservative evangelical Protestant, but I'd much rather see the Republican Party led by Mass-going Catholics with names like Gomez and Gutierrez than by people who act like Romney and McCain. (Since I already know Spanish, I guess I won't mind letting the Democrats try to take the anti-immigrant vote — I'm in favor of immigration, but it needs to be LEGAL immigration meeting demonstrated economic needs in the US economy.)
All I care about is stopping Romney at this point, and it appears for the moment that Santorum may be the only one left that can stop the Romney slime machine.
And if we lose it November, it will be ROMNEY’s fault! for destroying everyone that could have beaten Obama.
Let’s see what happens. If Santorum stays in, wins big in several states, can stand up to Romney’s assaults ...well, then he deserves it.
But I want to see first. Still think Newt is the best guy we have ..the best guy to DO the job — but whatever — this country doesn’t seem to appreciate anyone with true talent anymore.

That may be a typo but in a sense, Michigan is a fort for Romney.

W Bush ran as a social conservative in 2000. He didn’t run on the economy because the economy was OK after the Clinton years. He didn’t run on scandal because Al Gore was a boy scout at the time.
He didn’t even run on national security because he was just a governor who didn’t seem to know much about other countries at the time.
But it was his moral compass that kept him in place after 9/11 and 2 wars. Someone with little faith would have cut and run at the first sign of trouble

It’s the blacks and Hispanics who overwhelmingly voted for Prop 8 in California. Jews voted for a Catholic over a fellow Jew in a district that was Democrat for 90 years because of gay marriage. And you want these issues to be off the table? If all you have to offer is the economy then Obama will win once the economy gets a little better.

Newt has as many conservative problems (or more, depending on your pov) as Rick. A Newt supporter calling a Rick supporter a 'hypocrite' needs to look at the log in his or her eye before poking at another person's speck.
btw, I'd rather pay attention to Limbaugh and Levin than an actor. Better yet, I'll pay attention to my own research and instincts rather than a column by an actor. Norris may be a tough Ranger on TV, but he's not the be all and end all of conservative political thought.
I've thought alot about this, and will campaign hard for Newt should he pull this out and win (not looking likely now). I think you should take your own advice however, stop nagging, and support the winner of the primary, especially if that winner is one of the two conservatives left in the race.

As with most rude, senseless people, the end result of their action is the opposite of its intent. The only thing he's accomplishing is making people realize how sorry a case he is, and causing them to steer away from him.

I like Gingrich, but I would for Adolf Hitler, or Adophe Menjue before I would vote for Obama.
I can live with Sanotorum, although I do not like him as much.
I can live with Newt, although I do not like him as much. lol. We both feel the same way about the opposite candidate. Actually I do like Newt when he is having a good time during the debates and is smiling and being nice. When he is nasty he just doesn’t do it right and comes out whiny. Of course people say Santorum looks the same. lol. Santorum or Newt for the Presidency. There is no way that Santorum supporters are not going to vote for Newt in the general, they will. I am just not sure that some Newt Supporters will vote for Santorum in the general. I have seen a few say that they wouldn’t.
