Perhaps your extensive Naval service was different - you did serve, didn’t you?
Yes, I did serve and yes, it was different, though not extensive. Gator Navy mostly. LHA class. Too prim and proper for my tastes.
Being TAD to the Officer's Mess and seeing them eat off of actual china and with real silverware while the enlisted men ate off of plastic cafeteria trays and stamped utensils kind of ruined it for me. I didn't stay in long.

I liked the Gator Navy - it always struck me as the blue collar navy. Best time of my career being in charge of 1st Division.

I scored very well on my ASVAB and I was approached to go nukes during A school. I turned it down. I went to boot and A school in Orlando and the glow worms were already there giving me counsel not to do so.
The funny thing is I eventually wound up being a snipe in the civilian world after all.
