Santorum mega-backer on contraception: Girls, just put aspirin between the legs (VIDEO)
SFGate: Politics Blog ^ | 2/16/12 | Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s big mega-donor kicked up a controversy over the issue of contraception today when he urged a return to the good old days when gals had a simple solution for it: aspirin between the knees.

We’re not kidding.

Wealthy entreprenuer Foster Freiss, who’s backed Santorum’s Super-PAC, made the statements to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell today, after being asked if his candidate has expressed some extremist views on contraception.

He appeared to express wonder that women even have to worry about the issue of paying for contraception these days, Politico reports.

“On this contraceptive thing, my Gosh it’s such [sic] inexpensive,” he added. “You know, back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn’t that costly.”

To quote the Santorum backer more accurately,

girls, hold that “aspirin between the knees.”

I have to disagree with the way you're quoting him. While he did use the words "aspirin between the knees", there's a huge difference between:

girls, hold that “aspirin between the knees.”

as a piece of advice and a more accurate representation of what he was saying:

girls used to hold that “aspirin between the knees.”

When my daughter was about 15 and she was complaining about one of her friends who was promiscuous I handed her a dime and told her that was the best birth control device ever invented. All you needed to do was put it between your knees and squeezed. She looked at me like I was crazy. Then it dawned on her what the msg was and she laughed. She said she wished her friend would remember that. That was about 30 years ago.

I’d guess that suggestion goes back a very long way, maybe even before the time of Christ. The thin object may change but the msg is the same.

It’s such a shock to today’s leftist whores that perhaps they stop spreading their legs for every guy they think is hot. They are just as shocked to have someone tell them maybe it’s THEIR responsibility as a sexual being to pay for their own birth control.

Yup, big shocker in the 21st century for libs to be told point blank either don’t have sex or pay for your own contraceptives like a real adult would. And maybe if you don’t have your own money to pay for them, perhaps the responsible thing then is to ensure you don’t get pregnant and keep the legs closed. Use one of your kids’ government school pamphlets about how well carrots and zuchinis work.

Abstinence....100% prevents pregnancy and STDs - works every time it is utilized...and best of all, IT’S FREE.

I’ve heard this over and over from the lefty commentators and believe me they are devoid of all humor.

"What a Neanderthal! Real civilized people have free, indiscriminate sex with multiple partners, and then discard the ensuing procreation."

...And then demand that you pay for it.

Well, if these ame enlightened women who do these interviews were not offended by the sexual infidelities of Bill Clinton, JFK...

Then why are little subtle analogies about virtuous behavour beyond their comprehension...Thats what thi guy was talking about, but hey...

If anything this illustrates how utterly stupid some women (liberal) journalists are...

It's an old joke. We used to tell it in high-school, which was just before the real bc pill came onto the scene. Another phoney baloney "issue" from the media whorehouse.

Maybe if Newt practiced a little abstinence, he would still be Speaker of the House today.

That had nothing to do with Newt leaving the Hous.

I used to think “the pill” was a terrific invention. Then I got older and realized what we had BEFORE we had the pill and and the ensuing feminism: more sense of personal responsibility, more marriage, fewer out-of-wedlock kids, fewer impoverished women and children, and less sexually transmitted disease. Now I'm not so sure that the pill has been a good thing. I don't think I'd take it off the market, but “market” is the key word here. Adults should be able to buy contraceptives, but other people shouldn't be required to provide them free of charge. Contraceptives didn’t turn out to be the panacea we expected.

Ya’ll are way off base. Obviously you aren’t old enough to know that Mr. Foster was correct!

When I was a teen, that’s what we used to be told - just hold Bayer aspirin between you knees.

I never used Aspirin as birth control, but Motrin is really good when you’ve got a headache! And by the time the Motrin kicks in, husbands asleep. Ha ha!

Didn’t San Francisco ban jokes?

Everybody here got the meaning. It wasn’t so much a joke as it was a humorous way to teach abstinance. I think it was the late comic writer Irma Bombeck who penned the phrase. Only the Progressives in San Francisco missed the point. Humor is banned in SF.

Sure, anything is possible.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
