Since When is Self Defense, Not Justifiable?
Ammoland ^ | 16 February, 2012 | Joe Alessandrini

Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- According to the State of New Jersey, one must show a “justifiable need” to be granted a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun.

In this author’s opinion, the defense of my life and the lives of my family and other loved ones is my “justifiable need”.

Poor, Average and Unconnected Need Not Apply Amazingly enough in the State of New Jersey there is a polar opposite view. The way the judges and politicians see it, my life is not important enough to defend against a criminal in a threatening situation.

However, the judges and politicians see fit to condone protection of easily replaceable property with use of a firearm in this State. Armored truck employees, jewelry sales representatives and others that carry valuable merchandise and small business owners who carry large cash deposits apply for concealed carry permits every day and they are granted by the judges of New Jersey.

By their actions, they are telling us that money and expensive jewelry, which is already insured, is worth protecting with use of a firearm but the lives of our families, our loved ones and ourselves doesn’t receive the same consideration.

In fact, if the same politicians were to apply, the very same politicians and judges that deny the right of self-defense to ordinary citizens, are often approved for the right without question.

NJ’s One Big Criminal Safe Zone The politicians have successfully made New Jersey a state where criminals can feel safe at their job. By disarming law abiding citizens and making them docile, unarmed targets of criminals, they have shown that they do not represent the people. They only are worried about their own agenda’s and getting reelected.

The State Representatives can continue to create anti-gun laws and criminals will proceed not to obey them. That is what makes them criminals. They do not obey laws. If they did they would then be called “law abiding citizens“, the only one affect by the brain dead laws and the true target of politicians.

Contrary to Popular News Media Numbers Still Don’t Lie A change is needed in the way we perceive our government officials and it’s time to hold them accountable for the crime we experience in this state. To demonstrate that effective drop in crime from an increased concealed carry permit holders, multiple studies have been done in states that once did not allow carrying a handgun and now do. The results do not lie.

They are not fabricated statistics. Since the outset of the Florida right-to-carry law, the Florida murder rate has averaged 36% lower than it was before the law took effect, while the U.S. murder rate has averaged 15% lower.

During the years in which the D.C. handgun ban and trigger lock law was in effect, the Washington, D.C. murder rate averaged 73% higher than it was at the outset of the law, while the U.S. murder rate averaged 11% lower.

You see, this change does work. In fact in not one of the studies conducted has the rate risen or caused “blood to flow through the streets” as political anti-gunners would attempt to lead you to believe would happen.

“It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.” -Thomas Sowell.

We, as voters, must change this trend and have the power to do so. Our voices need to be heard in all upcoming elections. The New Jersey politicians need to begin to realize that they are voted in by the people and must listen to what the people want and put their own agenda’s aside. We must let them know that we are exasperated with their attitude toward law abiding gun owners in this state.

We need to tear down that wall and create change in this state for the good of the law abiding citizen to defend his/her self, family and loved ones. Voting out the close minded, misinformed politicians is the first step in the process.

“The Constitution of the United States begins with the words “We the people.” But neither the Constitution nor “We the people” will mean anything if politicians and judges can continue to do end runs around both.” –Thomas Sowell.

This quote sums up the very nature of this article, think about it will ya.

About Joe Alessandrini: Joe is a blue collar guy, active shooter, archer and Freemason, he is the typical New Jersey “Joe” Gun Owner and, just like me and you, he is frustrated with people not up holding the Constitution and walking allover the Bill Of Rights, but rather than keep it to himself Joe is doing something about it, putting it writing on AmmoLand and making a difference for all of us. Be sure and comment on each of his articles.

Joe shows one of the great problems with "may issue". It presumes that a merchants money is more important than your life.

The Northeast megalopolis seems like a liberal wasteland. My sister lived in New Jersey the only part I liked about visiting her, besides seeing her, was the drive through Western Pennsylvania.

Since NJ makes it damn near impossible to get a handgun permit in the first place, this should really come as no surprise to anyone.

I'll be going into my seventh month of waiting for approval on my permit - when it finally gets finished, I'll have the pleasure of being grilled by a detective before I'm "approved".

Why people live in these states (New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, etc.) which screw over their rights has always been a mystery to me.

Yes, I know. That’s where their job is but rather than submit to these tyrannies I would have been searching for another job long ago (not now, when the economy is in the tank). Others note that where their family roots are. Or they want to be close to their grandchildren.

Fine, stay there but if you are unwilling to do anything about it—such as MOVING—quit your b@tching.

I wish I knew how to link and post video on here from my phone. There was a gunfight in Marianna, Fl at a liquor store where the clerk was a quick draw but still got nailed. If anyone could be so kind. Google wctv Marianna liquor store shooting. You’re bound to find it. Quite startling..

Another reason why Chris Christie should NEVER be allowed anywhere near a Republican ticket. He’s tacit acceptance of these stupid laws means that he approves of them.

Jersey is close enough that what we do in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and maybe even Ohio, can make an impact on the safety of people in New Jersey.

The politicians there and in New York thought that if they could limit Virginians to purchasing no more than one handgun a month they could virtually eliminate handgun crimes.

Well, it didn't happen.

In the meantime we've made things so tight for criminals in Virginia by allowing just anybody to carry, even openly, that our violent crime rates are way down.

Those criminals still exist, and they gotta' be doing something, so that's probably in New Jersey! Eventually all those EXTRA criminals that New Jersey didn't breed itself are going to start shooting up the public officials.

And no one will care.

New Jersey not only requires “justifiable need,” but the need must be an immediate and personal threat. It must be as if a thug has made a written, notarized letter of appointment with you, with a 60-day lead time in order to allow you to get a permit. Even then, probably you will not get the carry permit.

The rest of the NJ gun laws are similarly stupid, but it would take to long to list all of the them here.

Fort those of you whom have defense weapons, you must now get training: not just shooting-range training, but combat training. I had two such courses recently, and I feel that I really know my weapon now for the first time.

As someone recently said, “Thinking that you are armed just because you have a gun, is like thinking that you are a musician because you recently bought a piano.”
