The due penalty for perversion is the same regardless of socioeconomic status.

Forgive the lateness of this reply, but I had to get this in.
One of the most abiding lessons Moses ever taught that unfortunately went unheeded, is that G-d did not create man to be RULED over, but to rule over himself. THAT is true freedom.
We were given guidelines for how to learn to do this, but fear, weakness of spirit, laziness, could not overcome the psychological need to have a ruler. It was EASIER to be told what to do than do the work necessary to just do it.
It was a source of constant frustration for Moses.
It seems we never unlearned how to be slaves in one way or another.
The Founders knew this and in their wisdom, they tried to the best of their ability clarify what makes men free. We still have not learned.
