A Connecticut mother reportedly received an unusual gift for her 98th birthday from her eldest son -- eviction papers.
Mary Kantorowski, who has lived in the same Fairfield, Conn., home since 1953, is now facing eviction from her yellow, Cape Cod-style home valued at $333,410, the Connecticut Post reports. Her son Peter Kantorowski, 71, a retired taxidermist, said he's doing it for her own good.
"She would be better off living with people her own age," he told the newspaper.
According to Probate Court records, Mary Kantorowski and her husband, John, agreed to transfer the house to a trust administered by Peter Kantorowski on the condition that Mary would live there until her death, and upon her death, the house would go to Peter and his younger brother, Jack, the newspaper reports.
In July 2005, however, Peter Kantorowski quitclaimed the house from that trust to another he and his wife control, giving him ownership of the house. Six years later, in Dec. 13, 2011, his mother's 98th birthday, Peter Kantorowski had his mother served with eviction papers.
"This is just a despicable situation," said Richard Bortolot Jr., a Stratford lawyer appointed by Fairfield Probate Judge Daniel Caruso to represent Mary Kantorowski. "Mary has been living here happily paying all the expenses for the house and now her son, Peter, comes along and is telling her, 'Get the hell out,' so he can sell it."
"My husband worked hard, difficult jobs to buy this house," Mary Kantorowski told the Connecticut Post. "He built the garage and did a lot of work on the house and he told me never to leave it."

Why does everyone here think they have enough evidence to convict the son of doing evil?
She was awesome. I remember reading somewhere around her 120th birthday that she said (translated from the French), "I only have one wrinkle, and I'm sitting on it."

I guess I’m missing the kind, Christian motivation behind serving a Mom with eviction papers on her birthday and immediately putting the house up for sale...
A $300,000 house in Connecticut could be a very small house, indeed, especially if it is in an historic part of town, since she is so long-lived. There are tiny cottages in Georgetown (DC) and Society Hill (Philadelphia) that once housed slaves or servants that are now worth $1,000,000, simply because of their location.
Why should anyone strip her of her rightful property, just because she is old? The article says she was examined on order of the judge and found competent.
We don’t know the whole story here. We don’t know if the 98 year old mother is physically and mentally able to take care of herself.
I know someone who has been trying to get his parents to move into assisted living quarters for the past few years. The couple in their eighties don’t get along, they lived apart for 20 years of their marriage and only got back together to save money. The woman never cooked, not even when her sons were small and survives on granola bars and things like that and the father doesn’t care to eat.
The father is a WWII veteran, who as a seventeen year old, was wounded in the invasion of Normandy, so severely wounded that he had no recollection of the events of the day. He came home from the war and went to college, earning a PHD in bio-chemistry. When he was in his seventies the war injuries started to bother him and brought back the memories of the invasion. He now has full PTSD and spends most of his time in his bedroom.
The couple has an older son that fried his brain on drugs and cannot hold a job, so they pay him to do light housework and maintenance, but he’s worthless.
The couple needs intervention and tough love. Maybe this is the case with this woman, as well.

A cape cod isn’t exacty a baronial manor. I think she should stay as long as she wants to. This is still America.
Peter is probably an Obamabot — a self-appointed, one-man Obamacare let’s-take-care-of-an-old-lady-the-easiest, cheapest-way-possible death squad. I just hope this poor woman doesn’t have a living will with this guy making end of life decisions for her.
He does show an Obama-level of (non)concern for his family. This makes him not only sleezy enough to be a liberal, but he has that extra-special slime about him which qualifies him to be a relative of the Obamaloon and wench.

Sorry. The elderly individual makes that choice; not the collective majority through the government (as in England) and surely not a greedy, dishonest relative as in the case of the man in this story.
There should not be pressure from greedy family members to take the elders’ property or life before they are naturally in the grave. Some elders don’t leave their estates to their children and grand children.
If I had a psychopath in the family who expressed a sick and twisted attitude of entitlement with me and my property in my old age, she would not be in the will and she would not have any involvement in my life as I may become too weak to fend off her greed.

I kept looking for the sarc tag on your post. Are you freakin’ kidding me? The lady is well, is living in her own home and paying her own expenses. She’s got a piece of crap for a son. Why should she leave HER home because this guy wants the money.
He’s probably hoping that he’ll just break her heart and she’ll die faster. My mom was 83 when she passed away and we swore she’d never, ever be in a home. She wasn’t. I wish I had her as long as this piece of garbage has had his mother.
This one is a Cape Cod house that was likely built in the 40s or 50s - back when Fairfield was a more blue collar community. It almost certainly is less than 1500 sq ft - many Cape Cods of that era were less than 1000 sq ft.
So, even assuming that it was morally right to steal a house from an elderly widow if it was "too big", this is assuredly not too big.
Eva, the judge presiding over this civil case personally visited her in her home and interviewed her, accompanied by a geriatric psychiatrist, in order to determine her physical and mental fitness. She passed with flying colors.
From what I read, I know enough that is shows the son to be an evil jerk. We, along with many other families, are struggling over similar issues.
My wife's mother is in her late 80s. My wife and I have always helped her, visiting weekly, taking her out shopping or for recreation, doing her bills, and working on her house - for 25 years since my wife's father died. Her sister is trying to get her sent to a senior care center. We intervened, and took her mom into our home to live with us. The sister is trying to paint the mom as incompetent and severely ill, while we find her vibrant and relatively healthy. The sister's lawyer boyfriend was trying to wrest control of all finances. Motive - greed to get the house, valued at $800G as well as cash holdings. We produced trust documents and amendments showing my wife is executor and in control. As it stands now, three siblings are still trying to wrest control from us and another sibling who is helping us. The three are greedy and broke, while the two including us are relatively well off and self-sufficient. No way will we allow them to put her in a home with strangers.
The evidence:
(1) He promised his mother she could live in her own home until she died. He broke that promise.
(2) He had a fiduciary duty as a trustee to handle the property in trust for the benefit of the beneficiary. Instead, he transferred the property to a trust of which he was the beneficiary. That's theft.
(3) He claims that his mother cannot care for herself, but has not visited her for 8 months. The judge visited the mother and saw for himself that the mother is quite competent and able. So he lied in order to steal from his own widowed mother.
(4) He had his flunky serve her with eviction papers on her own birthday. I'm not sure what else you would call that but evil.
What does the Bible say about those who oppress the widow?
