A Connecticut mother reportedly received an unusual gift for her 98th birthday from her eldest son -- eviction papers.
Mary Kantorowski, who has lived in the same Fairfield, Conn., home since 1953, is now facing eviction from her yellow, Cape Cod-style home valued at $333,410, the Connecticut Post reports. Her son Peter Kantorowski, 71, a retired taxidermist, said he's doing it for her own good.
"She would be better off living with people her own age," he told the newspaper.
According to Probate Court records, Mary Kantorowski and her husband, John, agreed to transfer the house to a trust administered by Peter Kantorowski on the condition that Mary would live there until her death, and upon her death, the house would go to Peter and his younger brother, Jack, the newspaper reports.
In July 2005, however, Peter Kantorowski quitclaimed the house from that trust to another he and his wife control, giving him ownership of the house. Six years later, in Dec. 13, 2011, his mother's 98th birthday, Peter Kantorowski had his mother served with eviction papers.
"This is just a despicable situation," said Richard Bortolot Jr., a Stratford lawyer appointed by Fairfield Probate Judge Daniel Caruso to represent Mary Kantorowski. "Mary has been living here happily paying all the expenses for the house and now her son, Peter, comes along and is telling her, 'Get the hell out,' so he can sell it."
"My husband worked hard, difficult jobs to buy this house," Mary Kantorowski told the Connecticut Post. "He built the garage and did a lot of work on the house and he told me never to leave it."

You must have some very nice relatives, or you are very young. We have an average decent family and nice friends; yet I’ve seen versions of this behavior — usually from the in-law wife pushing behind the scenes, in many families.
Saw that.
LOL
You are still basing your knowledge on what the media has reported.
Doesn’t FR exist because the media lies and spins?
Why are you so determined to have an opinion on a subject that is beyond your control to know well?
Perhaps some lawyer has been stealing his mother blind and he is worried to death about her and has only one method to break through the barriers to save her. Anything is possible. Reporters don’t even leave their desks to file these stories.
I agree with you. But I think it goes further than that, to resentment of his mother for things long ago in the past.
My wife is executor of her mom's trust, and we care for her. One of her sisters is trying to take control and put her mom in a care facility. Three siblings are conspiring to do this, against two siblings including my wife. The three want her money, the estate in excess of one mil. But the evil daughter is also doing it because she was the black sheep of the family, chastised by both parents for doing bad things as a child. Now, she is trying to do harm to her mom by trying to take away her freedom and money. But we are stopping her; already got one lawyer to back off because my wife is executor and will do all we can to protect my wife's mom and her independence.
Sometimes, just sometimes, a local newspaper reports based on easily-checked public records, as wideawake has pointed out.
Since when is it a crime to come to the defense of an old lady who didn’t start this fight, but stands to be pushed aside unless she has to bother her advanced old age with stress? It’s not like she is a publicity hoe here. Her other son has come to her defense.
What is bothering you so very much about this story? Unless you put your own mother in the street, why the outrage?
People are in sympathy with a 98-year-old who gets served with eviction papers by her own son on her birthday and you think we are haters? God bless you, child.
Calling strangers scum and vermin based on media reports isn’t hatred?
It sure isn’t love, or intelligence.
donna dear, I did not call anyone ‘scum’ or ‘vermin.’ Please direct your nitpicking elsewhere.
And I might also recommend that you read the entire article carefully; since it is obvious that many of the questions you asked have already been answered, such as whether she has a lawyer (her lawyer of record has not been charging her any money at all).
I never said you posted “scum” or “vermin”.
If you want to vouch for the accuracy of the article, do so. My posts point out several reason why you should not risk it.
Finally, I'm not your dear.
My question is why you are still on FR, since so much conservatives believe seems to displease you.
A conservative could respond to the following:
You failed the crunch decision, LOL. I guess you let the crazy man, who is carrying a baby, go back into his house.
Then lets tell the police to not respond to such 911 calls.
