If Santorum's comments do cause some left-leaning Christians to reconsider their support of Obama, then great. But I agree with an earlier poster that this can also get the campaign off-message, and personally I don't think making this election into a theological battle is a good idea.
Better to get this out of the way in the primaries. Mitt didn't and he is sinking fast.
Agreed....if this election is about the economy we win. Santorum should stick to that...the social conservative focus of his campaign, whether we like it or not, will not play well in the general election.
Actually the liberal Obama-ass kissing US media can make it into a theological battle right now, but things have “media cycles” and there is a certain “viewer fatigue” which sets in—and the marketing people in these outlets who poll viewers know it, they will back off when it gets old had and people start to change the channel, which they will. Since mostly the extremely committed Republicans turn out to vote for the primary and moderates or others tend to sit home’ it may be to Santorum7s advantage at this stage to have social issues also having a good go around, with the support of social conservatives who can organize through churches, organizations and what not. We are not in Mormon territory anymore, either, for that matter, but shifting to big states with Catholic and Evangelical Christian Republican voters. But the Obamaites and media will NOT be able to stretch this “social issue argument” out until November IMHO, a full nine months away, and we also know in large part the economy will not improve by that time and the grassroots will FEEL it despite what the goverment wonks say with the cooked up figures, so Senator Santorum, based on hard work from all of us if he is the nominee which every day it increasingly seems to be the case, should be a shoe in to get over the 270 Electoral Votes needed and make Obongo a one hit wonder. I do believe in the final analysis the general election will be all about The Economy. We will make it that way.
