The only thing that surprises me is that Romney even polls in the teens in Texas. I have never met a single Romney supporter here.

I think Newt messed up not participating in MO’s beauty contest. He most likely would have won it and re-gained his footing. However, I think the reason Santorum is leading is because of his attacks on Romney over Obamneycare and TARP.

Thanks. We have an open primary in Tennessee as well. As our state get more and moe Red that is less of a problem with crossover mischief makers.
I agree that the faith based message plays well in Texas, here, too. I am still supporting Newt because I like the Plans he is proposing on the Issues. Couldn’t care two hoots about “baggage”. That weapon is used by people who fear he will send them packingfrom their lontime cushy nest in Washington.
I will vote for Santorum if he is the nominee, as long Romney is not part of the ticket. No Romney, not no how!
I think it is sad that these people try to tear down Rick Santorum’s image by trying to turn a positive into a negative. It is, of course, only because they don't believe that there is an effective way to promote their own candidate to the public.
I think Gingrich is awesome. I choose Santorum because I think his positions are better, his record is better and his electability is better. I would vote for Gingrich in a heartbeat in the general or in the primary if I didn't feel there was a better candidate.

To have a chance at changing anything, you have to win key elections. A candidate who cannot win in the primaries has no chance to change anything.

Bravo, I echo your thoughts. I get my perspective by talking to other people outside of FR.
That is the only way to know what the attitude is from people who do not participate on internet forums about politics.
I see Newt as having a very hard time up against Obama attacking him on Obamacare. It is hard to make a case when you agreed with the primary factor of Obamacare which is mandates. Yes, he may have changed his thoughts on that now. But you know how Obama and the media will spin that. Same with Cap and Trade and global warming.
I will vote for the nominee, but I hope it isn’t Romney.

With Texas being pushed pretty much out of the picture with a late May or later primary this probably won’t impact the nomination.

In years past, I would agree with you. But, this year.... I think this thing is going to go right up to the Convention. Texas is “Winner-Take-All” with 155 Delegates.

I don’t really have anything against Jeb Bush personally, but I can’t imagine even the GOP would be idiotic enough to nominate another Bush for president given the rampant anti-Bush sentiment currently out there across the political spectrum. But then again, we ARE talking about the GOP here where idiocy knows no boundaries.
