Billionaire Sheldon Adelson Says He Might Give $100M To Newt Gingrich Or Other Republican

Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, 78, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice. Sheldon Adelson Could Give $1 Billion To Gingrich And Not Notice.

Is that fair? “I’m against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections,” he shrugs. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it. Because I know that guys like Soros have been doing it for years, if not decades. And they stay below the radar by creating a network of corporations to funnel their money. I have my own philosophy and I’m not ashamed of it. I gave the money because....

Everyone should own a politician or two. That’s what the USA has come to....bribery, corruption, manipulation, and money to tap into a crony government. Actually Adelson is giving his money to the MSM. It feeds their profits and makes our candidates beholden.

We’re headed quickly towards the same corruption that afflicts every other two bit banana republic or oligarchy or fiefdom. I can not understand how some who call themselves conservative believe the few owning politicians is honky dory. Both Parties can be corrupt and they are well on the way.

We need to remove money from government and elections and replace it with demonstrated free speech where supporters actually work and volunteer and go door to door for candidates.

Yeah sure. You’re repeating like a parrot what the lamemedia propaganda nailed in the voters’ mind with “Newt’s baggage”, “he’s got too much baggage”, “baggage carrying Newt” and so on and so forth. If you want to look at his “baggage” compared to Mitt&Rick’s empty suits, HERE WE GO!

If at 68, a man has not “baggage”, that means his life was empty and his achievements were nil.

Talk about a “baggage”:

10 uninterrupted terms serving in the House of Representatives (1979 - 1999)

The House Republican Minority Whip (1990 - 1994)

The first Republican Speaker of the House in 40 years (1995-1999)

Author of 23 books, including Lessons Learned the Hard Way (1998), Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America (2005), Rediscovering God in America (2006), and To Save America: Stopping Obama’s Secular-Socialist Machine (2010). He also co-wrote an alternative history series on the Civil War and World War II.

In 2003 he founded the Center for Health Transformation to develop a 21st century healthcare system that is centered on the individual.

Served on the Hart-Rudman Commission, formally known as the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century

Gingrich has taught at the United States Air Force’s Air University, where he is the longest-serving teacher of the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course.

Honorary Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Professor at the National Defense University where he teaches officers from all of the defense services.

Guiding coalition member of the Project on National Security Reform.

Created the production company Gingrich Productions, and religious educational organization Renewing American Leadership.

Fellow at conservative American Enterprise Institute and Hoover Institution.

Quite a “baggage” indeed!

NO OTHER candidate is more qualified than Newt Gingrich to become the next President of the United States of America.

Adelson was born and grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Ukrainian Jewish immigrants. He worked as a mortgage broker, investment adviser and financial consultant. He started a business selling toiletry kits, and in the 1960s he started a charter tours business. Adelson went to college at the City College of New York, but dropped out.

Originally a Democrat, Adelson became a Republican as his wealth increased. “Why is it fair that I should be paying a higher percentage of taxes than anyone else?” he once asked. He began making major contributions to the Republican National Committee following clashes with labor unions at his Las Vegas properties.

I will have no problem voting for Newt if he wins the primary.. which is becoming less and less likely..

I will continue to enthusiasticaly support Rick Santorum as the NOT-Mitt candidate..

I seek no “war” with Newt supporters but only question how realistic his chances of winning the nomination and if he REALLY wants to defeat Mittens than he should stay in the race continue to take on Mitt and direct those votes to Rick Santorum.... THIS is the BEST strategy to ensure Mitt does not get the nomination... do you agree? If so, we should keep our focus on defeating Mitt and if you can’t enthusiasticly support Rick Santorum at least have the decency to say that you WILL support him if he wins the nomination as I have stated for Newt.

Bottom line, Newt supporters need to stop attack Rick and keep your sights on taking whatever support Mittens has left...

in reply to your comment about Maine delegates, based on my on the ground observations, I would say that of the 3700 or so delegates selected (maybe fewer) at the caucuses:

Paul 53%
Romney 35%
RS and NG 12%

RS folks were very indifferent to the delegate game and RP folks were more aggressive than the MITTsters. If they are using the old rules of ‘08 with majority take all at the May 5th convention ... I would project RP for 20 of the 21 delegates, losing one of the CD1 delegates to MITT. I do not know if the rules were changed to make the convention allocation proportional.

Obviously, the straw poll was meaningless garbage, as it did not translate directly into precinct delegates. Someone would have a tough time polling the delegates accurately between now and the convention. A lotta work for the campaigns to attempt.

Well, if you want today’s candidates to knock on 100 million or so doors to run for election, they would have to start back in the middle ages.

Other than that, great thinking!

Let's don't even go to the "baggage claim area", FRiend! Santo's voting record and recent gaffes could certainly be considered "baggage".

I'm not sure if you've taken the time to watch Newt's excellent speech at ORU, yesterday. He spoke to a capacity crowd, enjoyed thunderous applause and took many great questions from the students. Here's one question that related specifically to Newt's "baggage" (FYI, it begins at the 55:40 mark):

Brandon:...Mr. Speaker, you've said that personal issues should not be brought up in politics, yet many in the general public and the media do not agree with you....How do you intend to beat the negative media and reobtain (sp) the trust of the American people, obtain the GOP nomination and beat Pres. Obama...?

Speaker Gingrich: By being honest and being open. (Applause)
People can look at my life (applause), I'm 68 years old, a grandfather....I've lived a long life and I've done some things I've had to go to God to seek forgiveness and reconciliation for. I also think on balance I've worked very, very hard to be the kind of citizen and person that would be worthy of your trust and the presidency. People have to make up their minds. (Major applause.)

So, Dan, instead of jumping in and bashing Newt, why not listen to the man's words of confession and of asking for forgiveness? I understand you support and admire Santorum....that's great. But, to call out Newt on "baggage" is hypocrisy, IMO.

Cain was vetted and attacked, Perry vetted and attacked, Bachmann vetted and attacked, Newt consistently smeared, attacked, vetted and bashed but SANTORUM is supposed to get a free pass on free republic? I think NOT!

GO NEWT! WOOT! WOOT! America needs the Speaker to turn this nation around and back on the right track. Newt is the man!

Has he made some poor decisions/votes in the past.. yes... is he perfect... no —> is he honest/sincere in his views... yes <—

So then Rick HAS BAGGAGE! SAY IT - don't sugar coat it! Keep it honest!

I also serve the PUBLIC

Don't think so, you are serving your own agenda. Keep it honest.

Speaking of honest - remember the LIES Rick said about Newt - that's part of HIS BAGGAGE. And that he campaigned for - pro abortion/pro homo marriage - mitt in '08. That's part of HIS BAGGAGE. So how serious can he be on his views? is he honest/sincere in his views... yes He's not, he already compromised that big time with campaigning for the very worst candidate in '08. Mitt is worse than some liberals.

Now he has a TRUNK LOAD - are you now going to help him carry his trunk load around while he holds his halo on? Then add hypocrisy to that TRUNK LOAD OF BAGGAGE and don't forget his carry on baggage with his big gov't mindset.

PERSONALLY I serve The God of Abraham - Isaac - Jacob

So do I and HE says satan is the master of lies. I will never vote for someone who deliberately lies against another to promote himself nor NEVER campaign for a pro abortion, pro homo marriage candidate.

Baggage schmaggage.

Newt’ll knock their “jimmys” off Wednesday night and send THEM packing.

They’ll all be leavin on a jet plane...

Hope their bags are packed
and ready to go
Newt’s standing here
enjoying the show
He’ll love to wake them up and say Good Bye...
The dawn is breaking,
The nation’s perked
Mitt’s campaign tanking (’cause he’s a jerk)
He’s ‘bout to be so lonesome he could cry

So help Newt and smile for him
show him that you’ll vote for him
Support him like you’ll never let him go
‘Cause they’re leavin
on a jet plane
Hope they will NOT be back again
GO NEWT - it’s time to GLOW

I have not attacked Newt.. I was simply conducting an analysis of the campaign(s) as we move forward in this process. I was explaining my reasons for supporting Rick over Newt... and made it clear that I WILL support Newt in the General election if he wins the primary.. will you make the same committment to support Rick when he wins the Primary?

BTW, I have yet to meet a Ron Paul supporter who will support Rick Santorum when he wins the primary which really tells me that Ron Paul supporters really work for George Soros.. but I don’t want to go there on this thread

Many politicians can be bought, thank God for those that can only be supported. Many financial backers of politicians seek to buy influence but thank God for those who will stand with those who can’t be bought.
