PA is overdue for its second president as Santorum surges
The Morning Call (Lehigh Valley, PA) ^ | 02/21/12 | Paul Carpenter

How can it be that Pennsylvania, the state with the most precious historical legacy of all, has produced only one president?

This is the land of Thomas Paine and Benjamin Franklin, the Declaration of Independence, George Washington crossing the Delaware, Valley Forge, the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights, the most pivotal battle in the Civil War, three cities that served as the nation's capital, etc.

And the best we could do in 223 years is James Buchanan, widely considered to be one of worst presidents America ever had?

Robert P. Casey Virginia has had eight presidents, including three of our greatest — Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison — although William Henry Harrison grew up in Ohio after being born in Virginia, and some feel that gives Ohio the right to claim eight. Even a historical chancre like Texas has more than Pennsylvania.

“Read some other posters responses to your vitriol. See that they think you’re creepy too.”

You’re projecting. It gets creepy when I’ve seen multiple Santorum supporters sit around saying things quite similar to you, equating Santorum with Godliness, “Santorum’s truth is God’s truth!”, and suggesting those who do not agree are atheists or have some other defect, nevermind legitimate platform issues.

The cult of personality is what got Obama elected, and I used to think that conservatives were above it. I used to think their support and praise for certain candidates was based on actual achievements and reasoned assessments.

Boy, was I wrong.

If you want to go Holy Messiah Santorum on me, I’ll be happy to shoot you down everytime.

If you don't know Santorum’s platform by now, you’re just plain lazy.

Matthew 16:18 “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church.”

If you got a problem with the Church I guess you’ll have to take that up with Christ.

And Peter wrote down what that 'rock' was the church would be built upon... the keys of Peter were placed into writing!!!! It was not a locksmith operation given to Peter wherein every generation or so got the authority from Christ to cut new keys.

With all due respect, dupree, I'm Roman Catholic, like Santorum and Gingrich, but that doesn't mean that my Church has to be the only true Church for everyone else, even though I might so think and believe.

Our Founders made certain to make Freedom of Religion the First Admendment in Our Bill of Rights.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

“If you got a problem with the Church I guess you’ll have to take that up with Christ.”

I’ll take it up with Peter himself:

Acts 4
8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
9If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ is what is referenced to. Christ Himself is the rock, the foundation and the head of the real Church. The gifts of wisdom, discernment, the “keys of the kingdom of heaven”, were given to all the Apostles, who were given the Holy Spirit to bind whom they will and free whom they will.

But actually, I just realized this wasn’t the religious thread I was debating on in a different area. I brought it up here only because it was used in a political way, as if Saint Rick was the new Pope, given the keys of heaven by Peter.

Gingrich is a Catholic, and I have no reason to think that he is an inferior Catholic. The difference is that Newt is running on an actual platform. Whereas Saint Rick has to embrace these emotional arguments.

I don’t “like” any of them. As of now, I’d have to go with Newt since we really have not had any “quality” candidates in the race to choose from since this thing started. I’m talking someone like Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint or Paul Ryan. And I know he’s a Jr. Senator, but hell, Marco Rubio is head and shoulders above the 76 y.o. Kook-Daddy and The Three Stooges we have to choose from now. And as far as your boy, Rick Santorum: Someone needs to tell him that in his daily Bible Reading, he might want to check out James 1:19; “....be swift to hear and slow to speak....”

Now, everyone; enjoy the day!

I understand. Since, Newt is not competitive in MI, the best thing to do in your case is to promote Newt, not bash Santorum until Romney is embarrassed into leaving the race (after MI?). Two things could happen then, Newt will pick up a swath of Romney support, and the Establishment boys might be looking to force a Romney-less open convention,in which case the quality candidates you mentioned might be put into play.

With all due respect, may I ask where exactly in my brief post did I say that the Church was the only true Church for everyone?
