A 34-year-old man was shot to death early Sunday apparently trying to break into a home in rural Johnson County.

A resident in the home on County Road 617 in Alvarado called 911 about 2 a.m. about a possible burglary or suspicious person trying to break in. A visitor was with the resident.

The resident said he ran out of the room to get away and heard gunshots, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Department.

The visitor told deputies that he fired several times as a man tried to enter. The man fled after being shot, and deputies found his body in the front yard.

Probably not a wise career choice in Texas!

My brother lives in Alvarado. I’ll have to ask him about this happy ending.

Breaking into a home in Texas is very dangerous.

Same thing in most parts of Pennsylvania, believe me.

In a time dominated by BAD NEWS, it’s refreshing to finally read some positive, heart-warming news like this story. :)

It’s one of the Classic Blunders, after:

1) Never get involved in a land war in Asia.
2) Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
3) Never break into a Texan’s home.

:-)

So according to the article, the resident ran away, and the visitor took care of the situation? The resident should have said he was going to get his gun to save face...

And a slightly different version with part of the 911 interaction here:

Don’t be sneaking round in someone elses back yard and then try to enter their house...

I love the Texas Castle Law sign above..that is great. Might have to get me one of those :)

Seems as though from a couple of other articles I read that the resident was a “her” and the visitor was a “him” (boyfriend)...she ran to check on baby/make 911 call...he took care of the business end of things.

Some guy on texashuntfish.com used to sell them, but I don’t know if he still does.

I took a picture of one when I was out working one day.
