The Epoch of Clinton, So Close Yet So Far
The New York Times ^ | February 19, 2012 | ALESSANDRA STANLEY

Monica Lewinsky doesn’t matter anymore.

It’s remarkable, really, how little resonance that Clinton sex scandal has today. The White House intern who shook the world is barely ever mentioned in the 2012 presidential campaign. If her name comes up at all, it’s as an asterisk to Newt Gingrich. Critics like to point out that while Mr. Gingrich was leading the Republican charge to impeach President Bill Clinton in 1998, he was concealing his own extramarital affair with Callista Bisek, the young Congressional staffer who is now his third wife.

The Monica Lewinsky imbroglio is nonetheless at the center of a two-part, four-hour documentary called “Clinton” that will be shown Monday and Tuesday on PBS. It’s a long, solemn and supposedly reflective look back at the life and times of Bill Clinton that feels as if it were made the day he left office in 2001.

Amid all the furor over the Starr Report, Linda Tripp and a stained blue dress, it was hard back then to see what really mattered. Eleven years on “Clinton” doesn’t try to find out. The documentary is still too distracted by the Starr Report, Linda Tripp and the stained blue dress.

The film breathlessly chronicles every misstep and triumphant comeback of Mr. Clinton’s picaresque career in order to rue the damage his lifelong recklessness did to his reputation and his legacy. (Though actually, despite all that happened between 1992 and 2001, the former president is doing just fine.)

What the film doesn’t do is give viewers a more compelling reason to go back and relive that epoch. The film hits all the familiar Clinton milestones — childhood in Hot Springs, Ark.; abusive stepfather; Oxford; courtship of Hillary Rodham; the Arkansas gubernatorial races; Gennifer Flowers; Travelgate; Somalia; Whitewater; etc. — without exploring

Clinton’s own AG authorized the Starr investigation as a distraction. Whenever anyone asked about the Chinese money connections, the Chinese espionage connection, or drug money laundering, they would be told that this was being investigated by Justice.

Then, when GW Bush took over, all that went quietly down the memory hole.

Perjury by a sitting President mattered.

Anything about James Riady? Johnnie Chung? Rose Law Firm and missing billing records? Reno and Waco? Elian Gonzales?

Clinton's a blundering boob, no matter how he tries to fashion himself as some kind of elder statesman.

Hey scumbag! Clinton lied to the grand jury! The Times just pisses me off sometimes. Frankly, I don’t care if Clinton did it with a hole in a maple tree. He lied to the grand jury - something Gingrich never did, as far as I know. *grinding teeth in disgust*

ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT
Passed by the U.S. House of Representatives December 19, 1998

Resolved, that William Jefferson Clinton, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate:

Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, against William Jefferson Clinton, President of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against him for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Article I (Approved by the House 228-206 Defeated February 12, 1999 by the Senate 45-55)

In his conduct while President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has willfully corrupted and manipulated the judicial process of the United States for his personal gain and exoneration, impeding the administration of justice, in that:

On August 17, 1998, William Jefferson Clinton swore to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth before a Federal grand jury of the United States. Contrary to that oath, William Jefferson Clinton willfully provided perjurious, false and misleading testimony to the grand jury concerning one or more of the following:

(1) the nature and details of his relationship with a subordinate Government employee;

(2) prior perjurious, false and misleading testimony he gave in a Federal civil rights action brought against him;

(3) prior false and misleading statements he allowed his attorney to make to a Federal judge in that civil rights action; and

(4) his corrupt efforts to influence the testimony of witnesses and to impede the discovery of evidence in that civil rights action.

In doing this, William Jefferson Clinton has undermined the integrity of his office, has brought disrepute on the Presidency, has betrayed his trust as President, and has acted in a manner subversive of the rule of law and justice, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.

Wherefore, William Jefferson Clinton, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.

Article III (Approved by the House 221-212, Defeated February 12, 1999 by the Senate 50-50)

In his conduct while President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has prevented, obstructed, and impeded the administration of justice, and has to that end engaged personally, and through his subordinates and agents, in a course of conduct or scheme designed to delay, impede, cover up, and conceal the existence of evidence and testimony related to a Federal civil rights action brought against him in a duly instituted judicial proceeding.

The means used to implement this course of conduct or scheme included one or more of the following acts:

(1) On or about December 17, 1997, William Jefferson Clinton corruptly encouraged a witness in a Federal civil rights action brought against him to execute a sworn affidavit in that proceeding that he knew to be perjurious, false and misleading.

(2) On or about December 17, 1997, William Jefferson Clinton corruptly encouraged a witness in a Federal civil rights action brought against him to give perjurious, false and misleading testimony if and when called to testify personally in that proceeding.

(3) On or about December 28, 1997, William Jefferson Clinton corruptly engaged in, encouraged, or supported a scheme to conceal evidence that had been subpoenaed in a Federal civil rights action brought against him.

(4) Beginning on or about December 7, 1997, and continuing through and including January 14, 1998, William Jefferson Clinton intensified and succeeded in an effort to secure job assistance to a witness in a Federal civil rights action brought against him in order to corruptly prevent the truthful testimony of that witness in that proceeding at a time when the truthful testimony of that witness would have been harmful to him.

(5) On January 17, 1998, at his deposition in a Federal civil rights action brought against him, William Jefferson Clinton corruptly allowed his attorney to make false and misleading statements to a Federal judge characterizing an affidavit, in order to prevent questioning deemed relevant by the judge. Such false and misleading statements were subsequently acknowledged by his attorney in a communication to that judge.

(6) On or about January 18 and January 20-21, 1998, William Jefferson Clinton related a false and misleading account of events relevant to a Federal civil rights action brought against him to a potential witness in that proceeding, in order to corruptly influence the testimony of that witness.

(7) On or about January 21, 23 and 26, 1998, William Jefferson Clinton made false and misleading statements to potential witnesses in a Federal grand jury proceeding in order to corruptly influence the testimony of those witnesses. The false and misleading statements made by William Jefferson Clinton were repeated by the witnesses to the grand jury, causing the grand jury to receive false and misleading information.

In all of this, William Jefferson Clinton has undermined the integrity of his office, has brought disrepute on the Presidency, has betrayed his trust as President, and has acted in a manner subversive of the rule of law and justice, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.

Wherefore, William Jefferson Clinton, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.

I'm in the aerospace industry, and everytime I see a picture of Monica with her mouth open I am reminded of Boeing's entry into the Joint Strike Fighter program, the X-32. It was the ugliest airplane ever designed, and initial reviews said it looked like a "stuffed frog." But the competition occurred during 1999 and 2000, when Clinton was still hanging onto office, and the kiss of death happened when the junior officers in the Air Force gave it a different name -- they called it "Monica" for obvious reasons. The Boeing plane never had a chance after that, and the Lockheed X-35 won hands down.

Here's Monica:

You need to find that Mark Steyn spoof article, which has Monica’s dress having entered the witness protection program, currently living as a set of draperies at an undisclosed rural location. Extremely funny.

“It’s remarkable, really, how little resonance that Clinton sex scandal has today.”

Then why does her love life screech to a halt any time a prospective boyfriend finds out who she is?

(There have been multiple articles about that along the way.)

The reality is that BJ Clinton is the #1 most popular Democrat politician in the country, and that his lifestyle is totally acceptable to most Dems.

Or as they used to say “all the [Dem] women want him and all the [Dem] men want to be him”

Does anyone want to say what really went on? Bill Clinton is a sex addict.
He is as sick as they come (no pun intended) The US government with all its power was placed at his disposal to allow him to escape the ramifications of his actions. He made a joke of sexual harassment law and women’s liberation and he got away with raping a woman . He also proved that character does not matter that politicians cannot be counted on to act like statesmen and that being a Democrat means that ethics, morality, and judgement dont count

I finally finished seeing the clinton documentary—all three hours plus of it (over the course of three nights)—last night online. It left me VERY upset!!!!

Yes, they gave a VERY distorted view of the Bosnian war—the Serbs “committed genocide”, Srebrenica was the “trip-wire” that signaled clinton to bomb the Serbs, Milosevic was one of the “warring parties”, the bombing and the Dayton Accords left clinton “the leader of the free world”, blah, blah, blah. NONE of which is true!!!!

What about clinton’s supporting infiltration of Bosnia by Iran and Al Qaeda, and arming both of them? What about Operation Storm, which was used in parallel with Srebrenica to quash the Serbs? What about why the war started in the first place, and what was happening in Srebrenica, for years, before the Serbs took the town? What about the fact that the level of killing in Bosnia, by all sides, rose nowhere near to the level of “genocide”?

Then there was the NATO bombing over “Kosovo” in 1999, which was not mentioned AT ALL!!!! After all, to do so would spoil the narrative, which climaxed with the Lewinsky affair and the impeachment, and ended with Hillary’s successful Senate run and musings over clinton’s lost “greatness”.

The only mention of Kosovo was on the PBS website. That is in the transcript of an interview with Christiane Amanpour:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/interview/clinton-amanpour/

Amanpour, a card-carrying Serb-hater, was also prominently featured in the film’s segment about Bosnia. She is known for “advocacy journalism”, and her vile reports from Bosnia and Kosovo were specifically designed to evoke hatred of the Serbs, not to report the truth. The Iranian agent Amanpour is still at her old tricks to this very day—see her Twitter feed.

Serb-hater and bomber Wesley Clark was also featured in the documentary.

The New York Times review of the documentary (which is the head of this thread) is a good article—its author should be doing news reporting and/or analysis, not TV reviews. She correctly notes other things that were left out of the documentary, and were the precursors to our current woes, especially the Sept. 11 attacks and the 2008 credit collapse.

Bosnia and Kosovo—in which America lost her soul and sold herself to islam—belong prominently on the list of clintonite actions that gave rise to our current woes.
