Obama Indicates Anyone Who Has Immediate Solution to Gas Prices Is Lying Daniel Halper February 23, 2012 3:48 PM

President Obama traveled today to Miama, Florida to discuss "new sources of American-made energy." Now, given the dramatic recent increase in gas prices, and given the speech's focus on energy, it was practically inevitable that Obama would have to mention the fact that Americans on average are paying $3.59 for a gallon of gas. But there was one part in particular of his speech that will likely not inspire a lot of confidence in the president's ability to fix the problem:

OBAMA : "None of the steps that I’ve talked about today is going to be a silver bullet. It's not going to bring down gas prices tomorrow. Remember: If anyone says they've got a plan for that--

AUDIENCE: Lie!

OBAMA: [shrugs] I'm just saying . . .

Interestingly, at least one of the Republicans vying for Obama's office claims that he does have an immediate plan to the high cost of gas.

"Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich dangled the prospect Monday of gas as low as $2 a gallon if he's elected," the Associated Press reported earlier this week. "The former House speaker has spoken in the past of gas dropping to $2.50 a gallon under a Gingrich administration. The prediction, coming as Gingrich campaigned in Oklahoma, contrasts sharply with rival Rick Santorum, who told an Ohio audience that big-city Americans should brace themselves for $5-a-gallon gas."

Isn’t he the guy who promised to make energy prices “skyrocket”?

There isn't a way to bring gas prices down immediately. However, there are many ways to bring gas prices down in the long term.

Conversely, there are many ways to push up gas prices in the long term. And that's exactly what Obama is doing.

Those stupid college students that listened to him.

They go to these high priced Universities, suck mommy and daddy’s bank accounts, get some BS degree and think they know everything.

>There isn’t a way to bring gas prices down immediately.

Sure there is, repeal all the taxes associated with fuel production/transport. (Might not be a lot, but it would make a dent.)

>However, there are many ways to bring gas prices down in the long term.

Such as repealing the injunctions against building more refineries?

>Conversely, there are many ways to push up gas prices in the long term. And that’s exactly what Obama is doing.

True; but our policies (esp. ‘environmental’) have been doing that for decades.

Part of the solution is to get rid of the guy that won’t do anything about the problem.

Just as good an idea would be to cut the federal and state excise taxes in half. That would cut prices by 9 + 15 cents in my state, more in CA, less in most others, but still a lot.

Of course, all the purposes to which those taxes are being diverted would have to be cut.

Darn.

End the EPA.

Without the FedGov’s interference, the regulatory burden is gone and competition gets thrown back out into the free market.

And yes, it’s just that damn easy.

No lie...

My immediate solution:

Drop the federal gas tax to zero. Immediately. Easy to implement. Just don’t collect it. Prices drop at least 56 cents across the board.

“Fast” Ed Markey said that opening up the Petroleum Reserve will immediately lower oil and gas prices. He should know. He drove an Ice Cream Truck.

I think you're right. You can tell Obama is lying and getting desperate. He's moving his lips.
Obama knows that if the inflated Economy and High Unemployment continues into the fall he will lose the election no matter who the Republican Party chooses to run against him.
