Exclusive: State Department quietly warning region on Syrian WMDs
FP ^ | February 24, 2012 | Josh Rogin

The State Department has begun coordinating with Syria's neighbors to prepare for the handling of President Bashar al-Assad's extensive WMD assets if and when his regime collapses, The Cable has learned.

This week, the State Department sent a diplomatic demarche to Syria's neighbors Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia, warning them about the possibility of Syria's WMDs crossing their borders and offering U.S. government help in dealing with the problem, three Obama administration officials confirmed to The Cable. For concerned parties both inside and outside the U.S. government, the demarche signifies that the United States is increasingly developing plans to deal with the dangers of a post-Assad Syria -- while simultaneously highlighting the lack of planning for how to directly bring about Assad's downfall.

Anyone here remember the satalite photos of Sadam's elite security force escorting the convoys to and across the Syrian border right befor the war?

Remember the first criticism of Bush was that he let Sadam move his weapons into Syria before the Bush lied meme came about?

Or did I just dream that part?

If they find warehouse of WMD’s with “Made in Iraq” printed on them I’ll bet it will never be uttered in the MSM.

Rule #1 - Never give Bush credit for being right.

couple your post with 500+ lbs of fissionable material that was found in Iraq (which the Canadians recently took custody of)and the case for war was more than made.

Was that when Saddam's Russian advisers were fleeing Iraq?

No you lied, to yourself. Every right thinking American knows that the whole thing was cooked up by Cheney to increase Haliburton profits. No one, I repeat NO ONE in the mid east has any weapons of mass destruction. Anyone who says otherwise is a racist.

actually I remember it exactly as you do

Anthrax vaccinations were not initially required for civilians deployed to Iraq. That changed after a couple of contract employees with the captured enemy munitions disposal teams died from an unknown upper respiratory illness.

Open source.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she supported more sanctions on the Assad regime but she declined to endorse any direct help to the Syrian opposition without the consent of the Syrian government, saying only, "We all need to look hard at what more we can do."

And why is Hillary stone-walling in not helping the opposition?

If Syria falls and WMD becomes the story, it will follow that the origins of the WMD (from Iraq) will come out. Then the old mantra of "Bush lied" decimates the whole DNC platform on the Iraq War.

What are Obama/Hillary to do?

I think that was 500 tons

Not pounds.

And Joe Wilson was telling the truth when he said Sadam never had interest in buying yellow cake in/from Nigeria.....Bush and British Intelligence lied about it.

Do you remember truck convoys scurrying out the back gate while UN inspectors were being stalled at the front entrance? There was a fast shuffle game of three-card Monte going on until we got troops to the Syrian/Iraqi border. After a short presence I remember them being called back for reasons unstated.

Regards,
GtG

My guess is they will rely on their comrades in the LSM to never let the story see the light of day.

It is fun in a perverse way to watch them twist to cover all of their deceit though.

The only reason I say perverse is because the stakes are so high, other wise it would be just plain hilarious to watch them implode.
