Act of Valor Trumps Hollywood’s Asinine Squalor
Townhall.com ^ | February 26, 2012 | Doug Giles

Finally, a 21st century movie that doesn’t portray our military as corrupt, stupid, confused torturers who murder innocent babies.

Act of Valor, which opened this weekend, features active (and anonymous) Navy SEALs in the re-creation of real events that showcase our crème de la crème rescuing our operatives and crushing our enemies in an OMG type of way.

I’ve got two words for the manner in which our boys were depicted in this flick … Sa-lute!

If I were a wannabe enemy of the U.S.A. (foreign or domestic) I’d be crapping my cargo pants (or tunic) after viewing Act of Valor—chiefly because our special forces are some bad mamajambas who have the tools and the tenacity to jack you up.

Yep, be afraid, villains, as our troops are effective ministers of God poised, ready and willing with stealth and style to inflict the wrath of God on those who do evil. I’m talkin’ Romans 13:1-5 style. Look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Another thing that I truly enjoyed about this film was the unambiguous patriotism of the soldiers and their families. Yep, no whining about their missions from their families or the SEALs who sacrificed their lives and limbs for God and country. It almost felt like I was in America again as I watched this movie. It was weird—but a good weird.

Even though it’s shocking to see our troops displayed in a magnificent manner within this Occuculture that loathes them, it was not a shocker to me; I have had the good fortune to spend time with many of our special ops and other soldiers in hunting camps from Alaska to Texas and have found them just as the movie displayed them: consummate class acts without a hint of the BS Hollyweird has smeared them with over the last decade.

I can’t say enough good things about this movie. In the theater in which my wife and I watched it we spotted several older gents and couples who sat in their seats and silently wept as the credits rolled. It was sacred.

I’m sure all the scabs and the venomous wood lice of the Left are going to crawl out from under the rocks where they dwell and bash this war pic, but that’s alright. Our SEALs and others have afforded you the right to be stupid and bray your insanity by keeping bad guys at bay, both at home and abroad, and thereby giving you the wherewithal to play your silly and ungrateful games against our fair land.

Lastly, parents, take your teenagers to see Act of Valor. Maybe, just maybe, some of the courage, patriotism and dignity depicted in this film will erase the film this crappy culture has slimed your kid with.

God bless America, our warriors who protect her, and those involved with this movie. Amen.

I've seen it twice. Each time at the end of the movie the audience was silent and respectful.

I will probably see it a couple more times before its run ends.

28% on the Tomatometer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. The biggest complaint I read about the movie was that the SEALs are portrayed as people without personality flaws (”so we never really get to know who they are”). I don’t know if that’s a fair critique or not. I’ll be going to see the film on Wednesday.

Does anyone think the anti-American scum bags in Hollywood will learn anything from this?

Or do you think they will continue to churn out dishonest garbage like Redacted?

I’ll say it again, the media in this country is our number one biggest enemy. That includes Hollywood!

As I stated Friday this is a must see for all FReepers. A wonderful movie depicting our troops in a good way.
Don't come back with any crap about the acting was bad or the bad guys were not real enough. I said Friday if you'll sit there and watch Stallone and Chuck Morris in a movie then these SEALS deserve Academy Awards for their performances.

Same here, it was very quite as the crowd filed out and it was a packed house.

I made the horrid mistake of watching the IFS Awards last evening (Spirit Awards...for independent films; their own little Oscar show). It was hosted by that idiot, Seth Rogan.

I say I watched it, but in truth, I could only stomach a little bit of it and turned it off before they had even so much as awarded a single Spirit Award.

Why? Seems Rogan just had to drop the F-bomb in virtually every other sentence. Totally gratuitously, I must add. Of course the audience of glitterati howled their approval every time.

The sickness of Hollywood is on full display. That culture, that town needs a serious housecleaning. It was disgusting, and believe me....I’m no prude or innocent.

It almost felt like I was in America again ...

This phrase reminded me of an old, but immensely timely, song by Carman ... America Again

Hollywood is going the way of the music industry: The graveyard of no longer useful entities. As tech increases more and more independent moviemakers will be kicking their ass simply because they will be making better movies as they will not have some Marxist cocaine addict dictating what they can and cannot make. Movies, music will alll be sold by word of mouth, if it is good and the leftists and their agendas will be hung out to dry.

Because of the asinine squalor that is Hollywood, I have stopped watching contemporary movies almost entirely; however on the strength of your recommendation I will see this one.

Hollywood's asinine squalor, of course, is part of the asinine squalor that is American decadence--also known in Orwellian newspeak as "liberalism" (there's nothing liberal about it).

Ignore leftard critics. Box office numbers are running ahead of projections...weekend totals should prove interesting.

I don’t mind if someone uses the F word occasionally, but if someone uses it continuously and constantly, I wonder about their mentality

Ditto that!! We went to see it yesterday to a packed house. It was great!

I’d like some feedback on blood, gore, for the squeamish.
I’d like to see it, but others are reluctant.

Thank you for your confidence in my opinion. You might have the same reaction to a depiction of an act of terrorism that I had early in the movie. I said "Jesus." It came out involuntarily. The scene is a horrific reminder to us of just what and who this nation is up against.

And trust me on this too, whatever contempt you had before for Hollywood and their smart assed anti-war prancing fancy boys, it will double after you see this movie.

"The biggest complaint I read about the movie was that the SEALs are portrayed as people without personality flaws"

This is the wrong movie to watch for people who are looking for personality flaws. They only need to watch the MSM to get their fill of personality flaws.

The anti-American crowd will never learn. But this is for sure, the respect people have for the SEALS after seeing the movie is more profound than anything the anti-America will ever get close to.

I thought it must be that way in other theaters too. Thanks for the confirmation.

28% on the Tomatometer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

That 28% is "the critics" rating. The "audience" rating is 85%, and is almost always a better indication of the quality of the flick, especially when it concerns politically or ideologically charged themes.

Although the critics are panning it, the people are loving it. Says a lot more about the critics than it does about the film.

It doesn’t pull any punches on the combat part of it. In terms of gore, there aren’t a lot of entrails or rivers of blood. I would tell the squeamish to take a chance and see the movie. There is a point to the movie and Americans need to understand it.
