Gingrich takes aim at Santorum, sees impossible task in Afghanistan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | February 27, 2012 | Jeremy Redmon

NASHVILLE – Newt Gingrich went on the offensive against Rick Santorum during a campaign swing through Tennessee Monday, calling him a “big Labor Republican” and predicting his surging opponent’s fortunes will quickly change amid a chaotic race that could remain competitive all the way to the Republican National Convention in August.

Gingrich, who has said he must do well in the Southern states to win the GOP nomination, also predicted he would win the Alabama and Mississippi primaries next month.

Turning to the escalating violence in Afghanistan, the former Georgia congressman said the United States is facing an impossible task there.

“We are not going to fix Afghanistan. It is not possible,” he told a large group of Republicans at an afternoon luncheon here. “These are people who have spent several thousand years hating foreigners. And what we have done by staying is become the new foreigners.

“This is a real problem. And there are some problems where you have to say, ‘You know, you are going to have to figure out how to live your own miserable life… because you clearly don’t want to learn from me how to be unmiserable. And that is what you are going to see happen.”

Santorum has managed to avoid any examination of his record or any challenge to come up with any ideas. Every time he tries, he says something stupid that his fans have to explain away - such as today’s idiotic remark blaming the mortgage crisis on the high price of gas.

Of course, that’s probably because Santorum doesn’t want to admit that he was in the Senate at the time that some of the bad programs were initiated and, to my knowledge, never made a peep about Fannie and Freddie. Or maybe he’s just really so simple-minded he thinks everything was just fine in the mortgage and banking world until gas prices went up???

I know that you're right because Newt Gingrich is the only canidate who came into this race with solid, radical plans written out to save and restore our Republic!

Damn the media for shutting him out.

The click really works!

Big-labor Republican

Brilliant. If Newt keeps talking like this instead of mudding with Romney, I just might get my enthusiasm back.

I’ve certainly reached the conclusion Newt has about Afghanistant and I include the entire muslim middle east.

I wish Newt could bring it home. Hope it’s not too late.

That was the best post ever. Very cleaver and funny. I loved it. See that is precisely why I can’t wait for the primary to be over so that we are all on the same page again like we all used to be. It will be excellent when the only thing we have to do is beat Obama’s a$$! You owe me a new computer by the way...lol. Especially about the line that I supported all of them at one time or another. That was so funny.

He sure is right on this one. All it takes is a few haters in that country, some money from a crop and a little help - a lot of us would be dead whether of not we are in the country or have left.

We can't kill them all and be done with it. And that's the only way to be done with it.

Who's bashing whom now?

Why are Santorum supporters so desperately afraid of a little light shined on his record? It's nearly pathological.

Why else would he be concentrating only on Georgia ...

That's why freepers didn't see him in Spokane, WA recently or today in Nashville, TN. /s

No problem! Rush and Mark Levin have six hours tomorrow to make Santorum sound like Thomas Jefferson. /s
