George Will: Take Congress, not White House
Politico ^ | 3/2/2012 | Tim Mak

Posted on 03/02/2012 6:28:27 AM PST by KansasGirl

Columnist George Will says the 2012 presidential looks like it might be a lost cause for Republicans and believes that the primary goal of conservatives should be to retain control of the House and win the Senate so Congress can restrain President Barack Obama while the GOP grooms its talent for 2016.

“Romney and Rick Santorum… are conservatives, although of strikingly different stripes. Neither, however, seems likely to be elected… If either is nominated, conservatives should vote for him,” Will writes in his upcoming Sunday column, obtained in advance by POLITICO.

However, Will argues, that control of both house of Congress is more attainable and more important.

“[T]here would come a point when… conservatives turn their energies to a goal much more attainable than… electing Romney or Santorum president. It is the goal of retaining control of the House and winning control of the Senate.. [C]onservatives this year should have as their primary goal making sure Republicans wield all the gavels in Congress in 2013,” writes Will.

When you combine hypothetical with realistic, then you open yourself up to a rejoinder. You move from the realm of the hypothetical to the subjective one of realistic. I am not forbidding the discussion of a scenario, but rather, disputing your subjective observation of what is and is not realistic.

As I indicated, if it came down to a choice of controlling Congress versus the WH, I favor the WH. And I believe it is realistic to win the WH.

Has it ever happened where a party takes over a chamber in a presidential year and not win the white house?

Has there ever been such a concerted push by the MSM to try to convince conservatives that a leftwing masshole like mittens isn't the liberal that he is?

The amount of positive, free airtime they give this creepy used car salesman, from NPR, MSNBC, The Economist, to Fox, all while digging up any dirt they can find on any of his challengers beggars the question, why?

Why are both the dems and GOPe so tumescent in their ardor for bishop mitt and his nutty band of space rock transcribers?

My guess is one based on culture...
the elites are NOT conservative, not pro-life, not gun owners, have illegal alien maids and gardeners but they love their power (as much as the lib dims)...and for that are willing to “put up” with conservatives, throw them a bone, tell them what they want to hear during the primary and then shove them in a corner until next election...case in point: George W. Bush and pro-life...he could never be bothered to show up only a stone’s throw away from the white house at a March For Life - in eight years, couldn’t be bothered - it says a lot.

I was talking about what is realistic within the hypothetical.

I absolut[e]ly despise Romney, but I’d walk over broken glass to cast a vote the candidate positioned to take Obama out.

Wouldn't do you any good if the Republican were Romney or any of a host of like-minded RiNO's.

With those guys, euthanasia, abortion, homosexuality and ACLU bans on Christmas displays are all "in like Flynn" -- "it's the consensus now", you see. "Living Constitution" and all that.

Even on Supreme Court nominations, I think you'd be in for a rude shock -- if you had two or three conservatives retire from the court in anticipation of conservative replacements, you would probably get three Souters instead from a RiNO like Romney, and a Supreme Court that would ban guns, cripple religious expression, affirm liberal social policies and bureaucracies and do many other unpleasant, socially-degenerative things.

RiNO's want him because he's one of their own and "it's his turn". It was "his turn" last time, too -- Manor Bush has been solidly behind Romney as a placeholder for Jeb for five years now.

Dems want him for less pleasant reasons -- he'd be helpless in Obama's hands, a punching bag Obozo would beat easily on his way to returning to office for the Last Act of the American Republic.

The media want Romney for the same reason and are helping him because he is Notpalin, Notnewt, Notconservative.

And massive numbers of illegal employees whom they use to break wages. They've been playing that game ever since J.P. Morgan got his first corner office.

In fact, Morgan and others built the Titanic and her massive sisters as immigrant-conveyors, to bring up to 70,000 new (third-class) immigrants per year to the New World, to fill up Morgan's railroad land-grant countryside out West.
