Forcing insurance companies and self insured employers to provide contraceptive devices and medications including abortifacients is not merely a "social issue". It is a constitutional issue of huge proportions. Don’t get me wrong. I am a strong believe that the social issues are important, that we are on the right side and emphasizing our position helps win elections. But ...

But what?

If the federal government can force an employer to pay for instruments of contraception and medications, they can force the employer or insurance carrier to do just about anything the administration wants to force them to do.

What are the constitutional limits to this government? Can they force the Catholic Church or me to violate my conscience and pay for things that are wholly offensive to me as a human being?

This is not just about birth control. It is about LIBERTY!

Yes, it is about liberty and it is an important issue. But it is, with the current overemphasis, still a distraction.

But... (again!)

Obama and Rush are both working hard to keep this issue front and center. One of them wants to get reelected. The other wants publicity and high ratings.

Looks like a WIN-WIN. But not, IMHO, for our side.
