Ron Paul: This birth control debate is just “silly” (Focus on freedom-breaching nature of Obamacare)

In an interview with Piers Morgan last night, Ron Paul called the debate about the Obama administration’s contraception mandate “silly.” Refusing to discuss the mandate in terms of either “women’s health” or “sexual morality,” Paul kept the focus squarely on the freedom-breaching nature of Obamacare in general. In this instance, Paul, who in his first career as an OBGYN delivered hundreds of babies and was paid to care for “women’s health,” possesses a special credibility — and his classic libertarian response was a model for how to handle the issue for those who don’t want to discuss the cultural underpinnings and implications of the administration’s mandate.

The birth control debate has been particularly interesting for the way it has both united conservative and progressive religious individuals against the Obama administration’s breach of the freedom of religion and has divided secular and religious conservatives over whether to revisit the seemingly long-ago settled question of what sexual norms society seeks to promote.

Yeah, Ron. We know you have no morals. But aren’t you just a teeny bit concerned that he is violating the First Amendment?

How is it silly to fight against a mandate from Obama that Religious groups or Insurance companies be forced to pay for peoples’ contraception. Ron Paul is silly.

The focus should be on both. One or the other is bound to resonate with most reasonable people, even if both do not.

The BC debate is indeed a distraction to divert our attention away from the crappy job Hussein is doing as POTUS.

Contraception is not the problem in America, lack of morals is.

STFU Paul. Go back to your libertarian party and vanish into the dark hole.

Paul kept the focus squarely on the freedom-breaching nature of Obamacare in general.

He's absolutely right. On a side note, I genuinely feel sorry for people who oppose the pill in general. Enjoy your condoms.

“How is it silly to fight against a mandate from Obama that Religious groups or Insurance companies be forced to pay for peoples’ contraception. Ron Paul is silly.”

Paul is actually 100% correct. How does Obama think he can mandate that religious groups must violate their conscience and we pay for others’ sexual hobbies?

Obamacare.

The contraceptive mandate is unconstitutional because it comes from an unconstitutional piece of legislation. The mandate is just one of many examples yet to come that will trample freedoms in this country as a direct result of Obamacare. Of course the mandate is unconstitutional (violates 1st amendment) but it is just one teeny, tiny mandate of the greater unconstitutional abomination — Obamacare.

The contraception mandate is just one freak in the sideshow. Making a big deal of just this one aspect of Obamacare without simultaneously addressing the bigger problem that permits the mandate (and others like it) is rather silly.

Paul's right on this one. Focus on the loss of many freedoms instead of obsessing over one.

He has a point. If we make the issue of Obamacare into birth control, then birth control is all that gets talked about. We need to make it about freedoms in general.

And that doesnt mean that he thinks that forcing us to pay for birth control is silly, but rather that making the issue boil down to birth control is silly.

“If we make the issue of Obamacare into birth control, then birth control is all that gets talked about. “

And this is exactly what has happened. We had just succeeded, for the first time ever, in getting the general public interested in government deficits as an issue. Then we went and shot ourselves in the foot with this stupid birth control issue.

Enjoy those Four More Years, folks.

He’s exactly right. The dog and pony show over Fluke’s ovaries is not the point. The point is Obamacare stepping into the churches and order them around.

Socialism is a one size fits no one really kind of scheme.
