When the U.S. government put my nephew in prison for capping one in Iraq it was totally over for me.
My brother said it best.
“You were so busy trying to win their hearts and minds that you have completely lost mine”
You know, there are far more people who feel this way than we think.
After the local branch of my bank closed, my wife and I opened another account in another bank nearby. The account manager helping us was very proper and seemed nice enough but making small talk during the process, she mentioned that she was from California, and by her demeanor my first thought was 'liberal'.
After a few more minutes the subject turned to our military, my wife and I send care packages and letters to deployed service members, and the manager perked up and started telling us about her work with veterans. Finally toward the end of our application process she said, talking about the Muslim world, (paraphrasing)"I'm so sick of those people and their backward beliefs. We should just wash our hands at them until they learn to live like civilized humans."
Needless to say, the wife and I were shocked by this, although we totally agree, coming from such a proper lady.
