Atlanta, GA – Pastors and faith leaders from throughout Georgia — including from more than a dozen churches — announced Monday they are personally endorsing Newt Gingrich in Tuesday’s Republican primary and joining his Faith Leaders Coalition.

The pastors include Dr. Richard Lee, pastor of First Redeemer in Cumming, Dr. Michael Youssef, an Atlanta Christian author and broadcaster, and the Rev. Benny Tate of Rock Springs Methodist in Milner, Ga.

Lee, Youssef and Tate are national co-chairs of Gingrich’s Faith Leaders Coalition. They will be working with the new Georgia faith leaders on Gingrich’s advisory coalition.

“Our nation sorely needs a President who not only says he believes in God but takes faith with him to the Oval Office every day,” said Dr. Lee. “Newt Gingrich is that man. And he will be the type of President to protect our right to worship without Washington interference. Religious freedom is what makes America exceptional, and Newt will make sure that freedom remains secure.

Youseff is a scholar and a serious man. His name will carry weight with some folks.

That's wonderful news.

Praying for Newt and that we can consolidate behind him.

I doubt it will matter much. To late on the Night before Super Tuesday. Most voters will be voted before they hear about it.

I think Newt's key to winning this is Tenn, Ala, Miss. If he can win 2 or maybe get a Sweep. Santorum will fold due to lack of resources.

Yeah, tactically you are correct. I guess what I meant to say is that Youseff is a very intellectual thinker and it is impressive, if not very helpful, to have his endorsement.

And a late surge to pull a surprise in TN or OK to go with Georgia would be tremendous if it happens. 50% in Georgia would be helpful.

Now, I don’t know if any of that will happen, but there is a surge.

Arlen Specter announces for the White House, with endorsee, Rick Santorum at his side.

At Senator Arlen Specter’s official presidential campaign announcement in March 1995, then-Senator Rick Santorum showed his public support and encouragement of Specter by sitting directly next to him as Specter denounced the GOP’s war on abortion. It was at this event that Specter proclaimed his total opposition to social conservatism and declared he is in fact running to make the GOP pro-choice.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/64281-1

Santorum is seen nodding and applauding at Specter’s side:

3:46 mark: “In 1996, I intend to win the other house — the White House — with ten commitments to America… Especially a woman’s right to choose…

13:22 mark: “Even though we have this historic opportunity for these achievements, there are those in our party who would lead us down a different path — and squander this unique moment in our nation’s history — by using our political capital — to pursue a radical social agenda — that would end a woman’s right to choose…

13:48 mark: “When Pat Robertson says there is no constitutional doctrine of separation between Church and State, I say he is wrong…

14:31 mark: “When Ralph Reed says a pro-choice Republican isn’t qualified to be our President, I say the Republican Party will not be intimidated or blackmailed by those kinds of threats.I, and millions of other pro-choice Republicans, will not be disenfranchised and made second class citizens.

15:33 mark: “… it is not Christian, or religious, or Judeo-Christian to bring God into politics; or to advocate intolerance and promote exclusion.

15:54 mark: “I want to take abortion out of politics. I want to keep the Republican Party focused on the vital economic and foreign policy issues — and leave moral issues such as abortion to the conscience of the individual. I believe abortion is an issue to be decided by women…

16:40 mark: “I pledge to lead the fight to strip the strident anti-choice language from the Republican National platform…”

17:05 mark: “neither this nation nor this party can afford a republican candidate so captive to the demands of the intolerant right...

Wow, I didnt know that the LORD himself is on this forum.

Judge not, lest ye be judged....

Have you ever really looked at the progression of Newts marriages? If the first one occured today, the teacher would be going to jail instead of student Newt manning up and accepting the responsibility for the marriage and child.

Getting married so young and under such circumstances, I dont know how that would ever survive anyways. So here comes the mistress and eventually wife. That doesnt work out well either but they go through with it for awhile until both parties decide to hang it up. Inconvenient that the soon to be ex wife is under medical care for possible cancer and she is served her papers in the hospital. Newt has the affair with Callista who becomes his third wife and has been at his side ever since.

Newt has converted his faith and received absolution for his sins from the church. If the church can forgive his mortal failings then who the hell am I to judge the man? I believe in redemption and am willing to accept a flawed man for who is has become, not what he was.

Newt is pushing 70 and I think his horn dog days are over. Lord knows that he isnt hanging around with Bob “Stiffy” Dole.

America is at the time of her greatest crisis, never before has the country been this close to the brink of collapse and destruction. America needs a proven leader, with a solid plan to pull up out of this nose dive. We dont need a wishy washy business man who talks out of both sides of his mouth, we dont need a big government back bencher who needs to fill his calendar up after taking a beating from the home crowd, and we certainly dont need a senile old man. We need a man with a serious plan to correct the wrongs of the current administration, someone who can kick ass and take names and not get taken off point by the Fluke of the week. Somebody who will not back down to the pansy liberals or foreign despots. Somebody who will back our fine military and keep it the best in the world. We need REAL LEADERSHIP more than ever.

And you are worried about him taking on a mistress?

I guess you're not too big on Redemption and Forgiveness.

Nobody knows what the personal situations were regarding Newt, his Ex Wives and his current Wife.

All we can do is speculate. As far as Newt's first Marriage goes, it appears the age difference caused a rift. It was a Marriage of unequals.

Newt and his second Wife were separated for seven years in which time he met Callista. A short reconciliation didn't work out. Judging by his Ex Wife's performance on ABC a few months ago, he seems he made the right choice in leaving.

I am not making excuses for Newt's behavior, but neither one of us were there and we will never know all the facts.

Newt has commented on his past personal life. It appears his fourteen year Marriage to Callista is a successful one.

Both of Newt's children support him 100%, so they must know something about the real circumstances surrounding Newt's first Marriage to their Mother as well as his later Relationships.

Bailee, Edmond, pray for Newt with all your heart!

MplsSteve, I am a product of thrice divorced parents. My wife and I have been married for thirty (READ 30) years. Get bent! You are so self-rightious you can’t see the sin that you are.

As a Georgia voter, I am glad to vote against Newt.

He’s a joke. Sorry all, but it is true.

So in the eyes of these religious leaders, serial adultery is now OK?!

Oh wait! If Gingrich apologized, then all must be forgiven - right? After all, this is ONLY his third marriage.

When does the condemning start? After he commits adultery for the fifth time?

Jim,

Is the moratoruim still on against gutter-level attacks against Newt and Santorum?

Maybe you should convert to Islam where it’s still acceptable to stone people to death over adultery. Your comments are absolutely sickening and disgusting. They’re the comments of someone who either doesn’t understand the teachings of Jesus Christ or who is too weak or sinful to embrace them. If you had $15 trillion riding on the results of a golf game, would you hire Tiger Woods to play for you or the local pastor down the street?

Amazing how Georgia has its head screwed on so much straighter than many other places. There’s no easy early voting there either, is that right?

Like most Newt bashers, you can provide no substantive explanations for your opposition to Newt. The only joke are people who don’t appreciate his tremendous skills, intellect and desire to improve the lives of every American.

Why are you referring to Santorum as a “back bencher”?

Did you not know that he was in Leadership?

As many times as we sin, God forgives us when we repent.

Luke 17
3Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
4And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Your position is the least Christian of positions, and yet you, ironically, are championing Christianity. One wonders how many times you sin in a day. If it is more than seven, are you damned?
