Workplace Salaries: At Last, Women on Top
Time magazine ^ | September 1, 2010 | Belinda Luscombe

Posted on 03/06/2012 1:04:01 AM PST by grundle

According to a new analysis of 2,000 communities by a market research company, in 147 out of 150 of the biggest cities in the U.S., the median full-time salaries of young women are 8% higher than those of the guys in their peer group. In two cities, Atlanta and Memphis, those women are making about 20% more. This squares with earlier research from Queens College, New York, that had suggested that this was happening in major metropolises. But the new study suggests that the gap is bigger than previously thought, with young women in New York City, Los Angeles and San Diego making 17%, 12% and 15% more than their male peers, respectively. And it also holds true even in reasonably small areas like the Raleigh-Durham region and Charlotte in North Carolina (both 14% more), and Jacksonville, Fla. (6%).

Here's the slightly deflating caveat: this reverse gender gap, as it's known, applies only to unmarried, childless women under 30 who live in cities.

The gender gap was always the phoniest, most predictable political ploy only trotted out during election years to help democrats get votes. “we’re trying to help you, sweetie, get your just compensation, since you only make 70% as much as your male colleagues (never mind that adjusted for experience and education you make more like 98%). Why anyone ever votes democrat is mystery to me.

Just another division of the American working class. Have to love how they are dividing us these days...geez!

I don't know about Atlanta, but Memphis is a small town. The two largest employers are the Baptist hospital system and FedEx. Fred Smith has always been an equal opportunity employer in the truest sense,

Then women wonder why there are no men qualified for marraige, and end up with boys that just want to take advantage of them.

Women choose the men who take advantage of them and then whine about how they can’t find anyone worthwhile.

Especially after they’ve been down the garden path and had their fun, they expect the men who haven’t to look after them.

Hey ‘ladies’ - sorry to tell you this, and I know your mothers probably didn’t teach you either, it doesn’t work that way.

True,

Also, men like to compete against men not women.

That’s nice.

Now the men can afford to stay at home, get pregnant, and have children.

Actually, I just finished reviewing demographics for Shelby County as well as Memphis proper in anticipation for a possible business expansion. Fed-Ex is the largest employer, followed closely by Memphis Public Schools and the US Gov't, then Methodist Healthcare. Baptist Healthcare is the fifth largest employer.

I have an affinity for factual data.

Young man, if you are interested in the “median full-time salary” or the women who strive for and celebrate them, you have already lost. Think different.

“Then women wonder why there are no men qualified for marraige, and end up with boys that just want to take advantage of them.”

The destruction of the breadwinner father figure led to the destruction of marriage & families (and I don’t think it was an accident). These overpaid women can raise those Japanes robot-babies, even take them to the birthday parties of the children of their more family-oriented friends (if they even have any).

The gender gap is a hoax; I work with women who are paid the same while working 75% of the hours of their male counterparts. Most of us have just stopped working the extra hours...

“Now the men can afford to stay at home, get pregnant, and have children.”

They can’t afford to, but nobody’s hiring them anyway. Here in NJ they’ve shed a lot of the recent government hires due to budget constraints, and there were few white men among them. The tokens that held those jobs probably thought they were set for life, too...

“Women choose the men who take advantage of them and then whine about how they can’t find anyone worthwhile.”

To them, “worthwhile” means someone stupid enough to enter into a marriage contract with them, and those days are over. They’ve marginalized the men they seek, and don’t even see it (or they just won’t admit it).

I have always liked the comment of one of the conservative economists who said that if women were paid only 70% of what men were paid, why would business hire men?

They only truly learn that lesson when it’s too late and spinsterhood is staring them in the face. Then they end up alone, and childless, with 14 cats who will one day end up eating them.

Happened to my ex who dumped me 8 years ago, she really went off the deep end when I became a father a couple years ago. Huzzah feminism!

That’s a great way to put it, and would also apply to minorities; large companies will always do what is best for the bottom line, and now they’ve been legally forced to take on a large number of ineffective tokens to stave off lawsuits. I’ve worked with some sharp women & minorities, but a much larger number of incompetent tokens. If you see an incompetent white guy, he’s somebody’s nephew or such; it is much more infrequent than the affirmative action junk that is just there for stats in the event of a lawsuit.

Also, men like to compete against men not women.

That’s because women don’t fight fair.

The truth comes out in the headline. Feminists never wanted equality, they wanted dominance.
