Santorum's private side, through wife's eyes
CBS News ^ | 03-06-12 | Jan Crawford

Posted on 03/06/2012 10:44:59 AM PST by Lazlo in PA

In her first network television interview, Karen Santorum offered a revealing look at her husband.

Rick Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, is a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Karen Santorum is very much her husband's partner and equal. A lawyer and nurse, she says they talk about policy and strategy, and that she tells him when he slips up.

But she has stayed behind the scenes, rarely talking to the media.

In our wide-ranging conversation, Karen Santorum was warm and genuine, and talked openly about their lives, their marriage, and the challenges they've endured.

"When he walks through the door," Karen said, "he is not a senator. He's not a guy running for president. He's a husband and a father. And he immediately shifts gears. He's in the kitchen, making a great meal."

His specialties, she said, are "Chicken Marsala, Pasta Arribiata - and pancakes with the kids."

But these days, Rick Santorum is at home - on the campaign trail.

Karen Santorums first interview on network television. Fairly good interview with the candidates wife knocking down some of the silly premises they have about Rick and his family.

I have read that she is IMMENSELY likeable.

Isn’t she a nurse AND an attorney?

I think we’ve almost reached the point culturally that the Santorums are too decent to be elected.

She comes off great in this interview. The first time I ever saw her speak was a few weeks ago in a Glenn Beck interview which was very good. You never really saw her around when he was Senator because of the kids. She is pretty heads up.

That would be a terribly sad and depressing thing. I hope your proved wrong, for the sake of the country. Hard to say anymore.

Ohio, Tennessee, and Oklahoma can not only save conservatism by rejecting Romney, but us give us the best possible family values nominee in Santorum.

Pray for those states to see the light today.

I recorded the CBS interview, and will enjoy watching it with my husband later.

I have felt that for a while. Our system is set up so that you need to be an absolute amoral scum to make it to the top. And we wonder why our leaders usually live up to that standard.

Thanx for the beautiful pix.

Karen and Rick have walked the pro-life walk, and Rick has been an EFFECTIVE pro-life politician.

“On abortion, he is one of many senators who vote pro-life. The difference is that he is personally responsible for making sure a lot of these votes occur in the first place: He was an architect of the effort to ban partial-birth abortion, a strategy that energized the pro-life movement and allowed it to go on the political offensive.”

Rick Santorum gets things done, because he is a FIGHTER, and that is what we need.

I almost agree....but still hold out hope that our nation will rise again.

I believe this can be achieved through Rick Santorum , Lord willing.

CBS was 100 times more fair and balanced in this interview than Wallace was with Rick on Fox News on Sunday. She got to respond to misconceptions without having them thrown at her in an accusatory way. Excellent job, Karen Santorum! Never thought I would see the day: CBS now treats non-Romney real conservatives better than Fox News does.

Tell me about it. Wallace does the same type of hit jobs on Conservatives that his old man used to do to scum bag crooks on 60 minutes. I stopped watching Wallace the Jr years ago because of it.
