Santorum camp asking conservatives to pressure Gingrich to drop out
MSNBC ^ | March 6, 2012 | Andrew Rafferty

Rick Santorum's campaign is calling on conservatives to pressure Newt Gingrich to abandon his bid for the White House, a senior adviser told reporters tonight.

Senior campaign strategist John Brabender said the key for the campaign going forward will be creating an opportunity to challenge Mitt Romney one-on-one, though Brabender maintained the Santorum campaign would not directly call on Gingrich to drop out of the race.

"We're never going to call on anybody to get out, but what we are calling is on Tea Party supporters and conservatives is to rally behind the only candidate that has demonstrated over and over again that he's the one who can compete against Mitt Romney," Brabender said.

"The real key right now is, can we get an opportunity to get a one-on-one shot with Mitt Romney," he said.

Paul votes are Obama votes as much as anyone’s, likely no votes at all among the rest.

Rickster is only 46 delegates up on Newt!

Is that before or after the establishment takes back all the uncommitted delegates from Rick?

It’s a real shame about Ohio. Newt is the spoiler at this point. He’ll never win the nomination himself, and the GOP-e would never give it to him in a brokered convention. He’s just going to hand this whole thing to Romney.

Yes, it's time for Newt to wake up and realize reality. The stubbornness and pride of Newt and his supporters will ensure us a Romney GOP nomination.

Why are you watching FOX? They get their news from CNN every single election night and are an hour behind. CNN has had the delegate count up all night long. Romney@359; Sant@139,Gingrich@93;Paul@60.

CNN has on sight people at state tabulation centers, and CNN knows it before the state releases it to the press as an update.

Why? Romney is highly unlikely to win Alabama or Mississippi so why not let Rick and Newt battle it out and see who comes out on top?

“Newt, after tonight - cannot force a brokered convention. Romney and Santorum won too many delegates.”

Guarnteeing obama a second term!

Gingrich lost to Romney in the South. Absent Santorum - Romney would have won, not Gingrich.

Gingrich cannot beat Romney in the head to head.

Newt only won his home state. That’s it.

Where else is he going to win?

He isn’t going to beat Romney in the NE.

He isnt’ going to beat Romney out west.

Santorum beats him in the midwest, and now with Tennessee, the south.

One-on-one is a dead ender to the conservative movement. All coalesce to Romney the socialist who goes on to loses (like Dole) to Obama.

One on one means - Game Over

If not for all 3 in, Myth would already be the nominee. Pray for convention.

And one of them was his home state.

Newt folks were calling for Santorum to leave when Newt won in South Carolina, despite the fact that Santorum has always had more states than Newt.

If Newt can win over the voters - why does he keep finishing third and fourth accross the nation? He’s won two states - South Carolina and Georgia. He finished second in Florida. That’s it. One runner up and two wins.

Santorum’s either finished first or second in all but a few states.

Newt won in South Carolina too.

He could easily win Alabama, Mississipi, Louisiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, TEXAS.

Calling for anyone to drop out at this point is silly. This baby is going all the way to convention. Should be fun.

Yes, Newt needs to go.

I think Romney should go.

I’m not sure, seems his followers are all over the map, either keyed on the fiscal message or out in crazy land with their anti-semite tripe.

Just threw it out there as I never hear anyone call for him to just stop already.

“I bet the Santorum camp is calling for a coronation as the anti-Romney! But hell’s bell’s, Rickster is only 46 delegates up on Newt! And TEXAS wants to vote!”

Santorum earned it tonight. If Newt wanted to be the anti-romney he had to be competitive outside of GA.

He was not. We’re not talking about the midwestern states where Santorum won. We’re not talking about the purple states where Santorum and Romney battled to a draw.

We’re talking OK and TN - two very conservative states, one in the south, and one in the midwest. Newt wasn’t even a close second, he was a distant third.

I’m saying, if Newt had won these - he would have earned it, but he did not, this is why Santorum should be the anti-Romney and Newt needs to do the right thing, to avoid splitting more states and precious delegates to Romney.

Yup, it could be just that. Myth doesn't get the required delegates to win the nomination out right.

LOL! That be BEFORE they take out Santorum’s UNPLEDGED delegates. Rick rooters have factored out the delegate rules as they riot oblivious to reality. ;)
