Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a liberal establishment in the House, conceded defeat Tuesday night in Ohio's 9th district Democratic primary to longtime Rep. Marcy Kaptur.

The Democratic primary was overshadowed Tuesday night by the competitive contest in Ohio's Republican presidential primary between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. The Democratic contest, however, was also hard-fought.

Kucinich made his concession speech just past midnight Wednesday, when Kaptur had a 24-point lead with 84 percent of precincts reporting, according to the Associated Press.

While I almost always disagreed with this guy, he had my respect because he was a fairly consistent lib. Unlike most Democrats, he wouldn't pretend to be conservative....and his honesty was refreshing.

Hard to believe he will be gone.

I suspect he will get an analyst job on a cable news station.

Did he get redistricted out of his seat?
He’s a nutjob but certainly no worse than Kaptur.

I moved to northern ohio in the early 70,s, and found out about the true DK in the mid 80’s. I never liked the man, he had a beautiful (Dolly Parton-esk wife, that he dumped, Sandy) and at that time I was very much pro marriage..

•Helen ?: The book Cleveland: 1930-2000 by Thea Gallo Becker has a photo of Helen Kucinich standing next to Dennis at the 1971 swearing in of Mayor Perk.
“Reportedly, Kucinich’s first marriage dissolved because his wife Helen wanted a home and a family; Dennis was said to be interested only in a career.”
Source: Frank Kuznik, “Kucinich on the Couch”, Clevelandmagazine.com, via Archive.org, June 1978.

Author Carl Lieberman, in his book Government and Politics in Ohio, page 202, mentioned that Kucinich’s first wife Helen disliked his political life.

•Sandra Lee McCarthy-Horn: Dennis and Sandra were married on January 15, 1977. They divorced in 1986 or 1987.

“Sandy Kucinich, Dennis’ second wife, also works at City Hall, assuming a motherly role toward Dennis. In interviews, she is fond of pointing out that she is a perfect helpmate to her husband, and sees to his day-to-day needs. “I am his best friend,” she constantly tells reporters. “It reminds you of the stereotyped Jewish mother,” comments one psychiatrist. “She’s there fussing over him, like, ‘Look at the little fella - that’s my boy.’”

I wish DK had won. He would have had to face Joe the Plumber in Nov. now the plumber has to go against Marcy the liberal.

Oh noes! Whatever will he do for a living now? He's an old man with no marketable skills who will have to learn to live on a fixed income.

'Course that fixed income is something like 200 thousand dollars a year thanks to the cushy retirement plan he's helped craft for himself and his fellow Congressholes over the years.

I agree, he was consistent & did not budge from his views. In today’s world there’s a lot to be said for that.

A knife in the chest from a true, hard-core unapologetic liberal is far preferable to a knife in the back from a RINO.

I think I will use that as my tagline for a little bit.

Kucinich, "the boy mayor of Cleveland" (which he bankrupted) has no working concept of how the real world works. He could, but is not interested. Example: He wanted to do away with the Dept. of Defense and establish instead a Dept. of Peace.

Glad to see him go. Cable news commentator? No. Chairman of the "Lollypop Guild" most likely.

He wanted to do away with the Dept. of Defense and establish instead a Dept. of Peace.

His type changed the name in the first place, from its more accurate name, "Dept. of War". (E.g. what we did in Kosovo, for instance, could in no way be considered "defense")

There are lawns all over this great nation that are gnomeless. I’m sure Dennis will fina another patch of grass to haunt.

I didn’t dislike the man because he was a lib per se.

I dislike him because there wasn’t one issue he wasn’t afraid to use to get face time in front of a camera - even if the issue came to light because of his incompetence in the first place. Then, when the press got tired of it, Dennis was back to his gnomeful activities.

The man’s been in Congress for decades, Cleveland is run almost exclusively by his party, yet all the problems with the area are those Wascally Webpulicans.

I agree with facing the knife but I am thinking that RINO actually applies more to Conservatives as the Repub Party has become the death trap for any actual conservative policies.
We need a true Conservative Party.

Someone should start a pool to see how long it takes Liz to abandon Gnomeo now that he’s just another ordinary insufferable liberal schmo rather than an insufferable liberal schmo with a bit of power.

I give her till the end of the year if he doesn’t get a new gig with a little bit of prestige or power.

You are right. I can see him on MSNBC. His “concession” speech was classic Kucinich, attacking Kaptur for running “dishonest, misleading” advertising (of course his ads accused her of being a prowar tool of the defense contractors).
