Having witnessed first hand a woman doing nail polish in flight, I applaud all those involved in this case. Polish releases aeromatic fumes at altitude which are noxious beyond belief.

I don’t paint my nails or use polish or keep them long. I am too busy doing things around the house or at work to have to worry about chipping my “precious nails”. Besides Long nails used to be a sign of “nobility” in that in the olden days you could have long nails as you would have servants who would take care of EVERYTHING for you including wiping your rear end.

I see long nails as giving yourself a disadvantage when it comes to mobility and cleanliness. I tried long nails once and they are extremely hard to keep clean under them and I am a habitual hand washer. It is nasty the stuff that accumulates under them besides all the issues with keeping them clean.

There has also been a LOT of studies on cosmetics and fingernail paint and nail paint can be an excellent vector for introducing all sorts of wonderful chemicals into the body. Don’t get me started on cosmetics, My one sister always would cake the stuff on her face like bozo the clown and now without the make up her skin looks horrible and she HAS to wear it. If I wear any it is only on special occasion and I only use it to cover blemishes.
