It's "de ja vue" all over again; this was tried in the 70's - as you say - using Joe Namath as their spokesman. Joe appeared on TV wearing those things. Back then they were "Mannyhose", as opposed to "ManTyhose".
It was a major dud then, and probably will be now, even if we do have more metrosexual candidates in today's society...huh, obama?

I read or heard somewhere that Farve wore hose under his uniform. Now you can get male athletic tights, which are comfortable.
