Polls show Southern split (Loving on Newt)
The Hill ^ | Christian Heinze - GOP 12

[SNIP]

ALABAMA, Rasmussen poll:

1. Newt Gingrich 30%

2. Rick Santorum 29%

3. Mitt Romney 28%

4. Ron Paul 7%

These numbers are much more salubrious for Gingrich than Alabama State University's recent poll.

In that survey, Santorum was 23%, Romney was 19%, and Gingrich was 14%.

One explanation? Even though the ASU poll was released Wednesday, it was conducted before Super Tuesday, which shook things up a bit.

But... that makes things even more curious, since you'd expect Newt to have fallen after his bad Super Tuesday performance and not risen as Rasmussen suggests.

MISSISSIPPI, American Research Group poll:

1. Newt Gingrich 35%

2. Mitt Romney 31%

3. Rick Santorum 20%

4. Ron Paul 7%

That's a pretty big gap between Newt and Santorum, which is driven by Santorum's horrible support with the tea party in the state.

49% of tea party supporters say they'll vote for Gingrich; only 17% say the same about Santorum. Even Romney beats Santorum with tea partiers.

I am so sick of reporters acting as if santorum is in a tear when he trails Newt in the delegate count.

I hope Newt dominates the 3/19 Oregon debate

If Newt takes these two it is on the West i.e. California and more

If he wins CA, what then does the Romster do?

I still think Newt has a shot...

Santorum needs to drop out NOW.

He likes to “take one for the team”..... this time it would be for the right team.

Think how the GOP and the MSM have sat on Newt’s chest to take him out and still he’s pushing forward and reaching the voters.

I want to hear Fox News report this.

“Santorum supporters have been urging Gingrich to drop out of the race since Super Tuesday, when Gingrich won his old home state of Georgia but no other contests. Gingrich only has wins in South Carolina and Georgia and trails Romney and Santorum in unofficial Associated Press delegate tallies, but the Gingrich campaign points out that he has a narrow lead on Santorum in pledged delegates – a count that does not include delegates from caucus states like Iowa that could flip later to another candidate.” http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2856873/posts

Newt is advancing into the first leg of his Southern Strategy - MS and Alabama. This may be the most critical time since the campaign started. He MUST win both of these states to continue on successfully. Please, this weekend, and through Monday, try to make as many calls as you can into both of those states.

I was on the ground in SC, on the phones, and door to door. There were almost 10,000 calls made in SC the last 2 weeks... and the last 2 or 3 days, you could feel the momentum changing on the phones... Earlier, it was maybe 2 Newts out of 10, and by the day before the vote, it was 8 out of 10 for Newt. You could feel the change, and it happened very quickly in the final 72 hours. Newt went out of his way to salute the phone call and grassroots efforts in SC... please... please... there is still time to call for Newt, and get involved for Newt...

From Newt 2012: friday

Field and Phone Leaders, CALLING ALL HANDS ON DECK!!
Our national phone team has successfully called through the original 18,000 volunteer sign-ups. This has resulted in a refined list of volunteer prospects for all 50 states. In 3 weeks our national call team has increased by 300%, or 50 new people per week.

Our increased call capacity will help us now begin to make calls into “Super Tuesday” states or those close by that can assist and or deploy to active states.
... YOU CAN NOW CHOOSE THE STATE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CALL
http://newtsnetwork.com/ (click Make the CAll in upper right hand corner)

NOTE: The list filters itself by time zones. It will not show you California at 10am Eastern Time because that is 7am Pacific Time and too early to call there. Once a state’s call list opens up the state name will be added to the dropdown list for you to call. (And in the reverse, Eastern Time Zones will be removed from the list as the night wears on.)

This new reality will enable us to be highly flexible in how we operate and target prospects for GOTV and or volunteer recruitment.

Please disseminate this information to your call teams and volunteer lists.

Thank you

I hope Newt has a shot. However, the one California poll I’m aware of gave him only 12%. I was born and have lived in this state for many years. California voters are simply too left leaning to give Newt sufficient support to win. Since Romney is Obama lite he appeals to what passes as a conservative in the state.

Texas will give Newt a nice win May 29th and BLAST him your way with a lot of momentum, so you can do your part June 3.
