Posted on 03/09/2012 11:00:45 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum hoped to lock down a victory in Kansas' GOP caucuses with two rallies Friday but faced grumbling from tea party activists for skipping their big rally in the state's largest city.................
Some tea party members were frustrated that Santorum wouldn't attend their rally. They spent $25,000 to rent the Century II arena in downtown Topeka and expected 1,000 to 3,000 people to attend.
"It seems like it is counterproductive to show up for an event that is going to have 300 people in an airplane hangar instead (of) 3,000 people in a nice setting where you can actually contact and really maybe sway somebody," said Craig Gabel, the president of Kansas For Liberty, which organized the Wichita event.
Gabel said Santorum skipping the gathering was a sign of tension between tea party members and Kansas GOP officials. He suggested the GOP had discouraged Santorum from attending. Santorum state coordinator Greg Cromer said it was a scheduling issue, and that tea party leaders were informed early..........................

No Child Left Behind. Medicare Part D. Raising debt ceiling. Job killing minimum wage increases.
You are full of crap, but if it were “Santorum or Bust”, I’d choose bust.
Here is a “fact” for you..... I will never vote for that loon, Santorum.
And some actually think he could handle the Presidency??!!
Very telling. Thanks for pointing that out.
That's right Friend! We need to get this thing to a Brokered Convention. The Establishment is petrified of what we will do if that happens. Believe it!
I think we made everybody Santorum go wobbly with this awesome article!!
Sir Lancelot can’t seem to dilodge spear from swollen foot.
Another 24 hours of this slapstick and it will be SNL comedy!
Can this get on breaking news or frontpage FR?
And, to the Newt campaign? Just hilarious!
Candidates sometimes choose the smaller venue because it is easier to provide security there.
Rick Santorum has received threats against him and his family.
Maybe he is just playing it safe.
I like the baby bottle in the middle of the table. LOL!
I'd be wobbly but I read it. I guess Paul is the only candidate in the race who isn't a RINO.
Be my guest!
They avoid our group like the plague these days! LOL! (I wonder why?) Facts are hard do reverse.......no matter how many times you spin them, they keep flipping “right” side up.
You GOT me there! :)
I can’t say just what our guy (affectionatly dubbed “Uncle Nutty”) Paul is, exactly.
So you just made up that part about Santorum reneging on an agreement, right?
CW, the google source for this marvelous article cuts off all the telling quotes.
There is no detail of the $25,000 expenditure and blowing off the venue for 3000 attendees.
Apparently Rickster is making both venues after all.
Just not before the “hesitation” got printed and distributed first! LOL!
BTW I'm a Newt supporter. Santorum is my second choice. I just don't think we should be tearing any one of our candidates down unnecessarily.
Lots of people want those things. Just because someone appoints themselves a "tea party leader" that doesn't give them the right to dictate to others.
Ii will vote for whoever the Republican candidate is.............
I don't think it is Santorum's responsibility to give a continuous readout on his campaign strategy. No one else is doing this and why would they? Campaigns make scores of decisions every day. That is their business.
Here are more source. That one I used has been edited. ???
A lot of UPS and DOWNS!
” Ii will vote for whoever the Republican candidate is.............”
The vote IS for the Republican candidates, dear one.
They are as follows:
Vote for Gingrich, and get with it. :)
You made me choke on my sandwich... you could have killed me!!
Look, I wish Newt were here.
Well, sure. If someone wants to give a substantive and fair-minded critique of Santorum’s policies or record then by all means go for it. I’ve seen a lot about him I disagree with and I want to learn more, even though I’ll vote for him if Newt continues to falter. But this thread is about making up excuses to trash the guy over nothing,
a die hard obama fan I know is rooting for him too.
Hey, could you do that in PLEDGED delegates?
You know, that graph thingy you did?
Do that one. The one on the PLEDGED delegates. I wanna see that one.
The one that actually does the nominatin’. That one.
All this nonsense makes me think Perry shouldn't have dropped out before the southern primaries.
Thanks for the correction. Me too.
But, he is being tactical as opposed to Chief Light Feather, who is appearing everywhere to noise about saying nothing while having muffed nearly as many delegates as he has gained.
Hillary in a vest.
BREAKING NEWS: In an all out effort to change the narrative away from his failing campaign, Santorum is premiering a new sweater.
Yes. A lot of ups and downs. I wish people would just stick to one Conservative candidate over Romney. Instead right now we have seen in the past 3 months Santorum and Gingrich go up and down.
If still in doubt simply google “Rick Santorum big government”. That should keep you tied up for a few days.
DELIGHTFUL! Loved it, needed the LOL too. Thanks!
Hard Totals/ Soft Totals Explained.
They asked him to go. He said no. They expressed their concern he didn’t go. Perfectly reasonable.
Groups like Kansas for Liberty are in the trenches fighting everyday. They expected up to 3000 people to attend. Rick chose to attend a function with 300 insiders instead. Speaks volumes about his priorities.
Thanks for the insight.
“Here is a fact for you..... I will not vote for that loon, Santorum.”
And that is the general opinion of quite a few just average Americans. They think he is nutty and will never vote for him.
Now I agree with you about Newt's strategy. But, let's look at how intellectually dishonest it is to count "states" as if they are the same. How can you equate Minnesota's tiny caucus to SC's record turn out primary?
Yes, I know, FAUX news has pretended to believe that and RS has a lot of supporters who have bought it, but I believe you have enough of a math related background to know how specious this "state" argument is. And don't even go to "electoral" math having anything to do with caucus math.
>> He suggested the GOP had discouraged Santorum from attending.
Hearsay, but it wouldn’t surprise me if true.
Santorum is an establishment bit player. He is regrettably center on critical issues and has the voting record to prove it. He’ll likely support SOPA type initiatives, and other legislation that further crimps Liberty.
I like Rick, he’s a good man, but not a Liberty leader.
I hope not. But, I fear so.
A tea party that spends $25,000 to give a conservative a forum to speak and woo the common people he is looking to draw is not just “somebody.” It is a crucial constituent that he should do everything possible (and impossible) not to disappoint.
He’s my man. But, it’s a mistake. He needs all the support he can get, and these people want to give it to him.
Given his fidelity to the Party, and the suspicion that the Party—which is inexplicably biting the hand that fed it—wanted him to decline, it looks especially bad.
I hate politics. Rick is a good man. I wonder who has his ear besides God.
No, he’s not a RINO. He’s so far right that he’s left.
He’s so consistent that he lines up with the Left on everything but the size of federal government.
They’ll nod yeah on his overseas and social initiatives to de-federalize the few things they haven’t won, and then spend the savings on bigger government.
Just my fear.
