What is threatened? Are those assets in the Persian Gulf there to protect Iran from Israel? Has Obama told Israel that our military will blow out of the sky any Israeli assets used to attack Iran if the attack comes before the election? If true, this is alarming.
He refuses to say what he has heard about the meeting, so it’s just guesswork. What now seems to be public knowledge is that he refused the request for bunker busters, and he demanded that Israel should not do anything until after the November election.
Whether there is anything in it or not, I don’t know, but there is the suggestion that more was said, which he is unable to repeat.
At the very least, I would say, a denial of any support. And possibly a refusal to let Israeli planes or ships pass through areas that we control. How explicitly that might have been stated is anyone’s guess. But at the least, he seems to have said, “Don’t expect any help from us before the election is past. If you attack Iran before then, you’ll be sorry.”
