Dozens of Iraqi teenagers stoned to death for ‘emo’ haircuts: activists

Iraqi activists sounded the bell over the killing of dozens of teenagers by religious police for having “emo” haircuts.

Activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar daily that at least 90 Iraqi teenagers with “emo” appearances have been stoned to death by the Moral Police in the country in the past month. The violent crackdown against “emo” Iraqi teenagers came after the Iraqi interior ministry declared them as “devil worshippers.”

“The ‘Emo phenomenon’ or devil worshiping is being probed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate it as soon as possible since it’s detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger,” a statement by the Interior Ministry said.

“They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationery that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities,” the statement added.

The statement said that Iraq’s Moral Police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with Western appearances.

The activists told the newspaper that a group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led the teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, Baghdad.

“First they throw concrete blocks at the boy’s arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead by then, they start all over again,” one person who managed to escape told the daily. The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges “between 90 and 100.”

Activists said that leaflets were distributed in Baghdad warning teenagers from donning the “emo” style, and in some regions, teenage homosexuals were killed by battering their heads also by concrete blocks.

In all seriousness, add together every liberal idea you can imagine and Emos are the living embodiment of that. They are the end result of liberal darwinism.

Pro enviro/abort/free sex/lib/anarchist politics/nhilism/total lack of critical thought/100% pro GLBT/drugs...all of it.

I used the word paradox before. Their entire worldview is paradoxical. They embrace nhilism, but seek attention/affection. They claim individuality and dress/act/think alike. It’s endless. And the trend id pushed in media as ‘cool’ and desirable.

I cannot imagine why...../sarc

The breakfast club was a couple years after my school days (I was class of 83) but I recognized my crowd in Judd Nelson.

I still dress pretty much the same.

Then there was the Friday afternoon we used the student radio station to encourage a "panty raid at Smithwood".

Oh, yes, now that was quite rad. While we (people unnamed) were on the air other (people unnamed) were going around painting DODDS on intersections ~ The Left didn't have a hair!

It’s like The Cure and Flock of Seagulls had a child.

Yeah, and the Wilson sister of Heart and Stevie Nicks are their aunts.

I will readily admit that I feel kids have a much harder time growing up today (compared to when I was a teen). You are right about their description. Personally, when I see one... I see a “lost” kid. A teen that for whatever reason has lost hope and sees his world as black. Whether he is in need of counseling, a true religion or a set of parents that have expectations... something is lacking.

Indeed. Good point.

LOVE that movie! It was on television a few weeks ago. This is what surprised me... my teen and pre-teen watched it with me and said it was pretty cool. The groups still exist just like then. My son identified more with the jock (is that Emilio?) and my daughter like Molly (the princess). Timeless classic!

According to my youngest teen “those aren’t emos, those are goths.” You have a fine photo of a gothodemic in the park.

Yeah I actually enjoy the movie too. Its a nostalgia thing. It came out in 85 so it was still pretty close to my age group.

I liked Ally Sheedy in that but then again even that was right because I was a criminal and she was a basketcase.

I agree with the ‘lost’ definition, but it is a self inflicted ‘lost’. It’s really the same thing in many respects as suburban whit kids dressing and acting ‘gangsta’ and pretending they be from ‘da hood THUG 4Life YO!

The I Can haZ a Cheexburger site has a section called “Go cry emo Kid” that mocks the hell out of Emos and their ‘culture’. Spend about a half hour going through the pics. They ‘embrace’ the mocking because feeling bad feels good...which is bad, so they do more of it to make it worse, to feel better in their misery.

Makes no sense right? In their world, it makes perfect sense. 100 years ago they would be in institutions. They really are mentally disturbed, and they desire it.
